I have a family member who is a para rescuer. The training they go through is unbelievable. The kind of strength and mindset you have to have to do that… they practice training in the water, in the snowy mountains, in the desert. They train to rescue in all different conditions.. It’s very diverse what’s expected of them. He told me how during his training, he tried to sew beef jerky into his clothes during this exercise where they drop them in the middle of the woods somewhere, and are expected to spend the night, make camp, find food and water just with a knife.

That is entirely against what Pararescue is. They are willing to die so that others may live. Their whole thing is willing to sacrifice, wether its yourself or someone you have to take out. If you leave someone to drown because they're panicking after you were entrusted to save them, then you are not a hero
