Incredible Stehekin is located in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area in the state of Washington. We took a boat out to the remote town of Stehekin. Join us as we bike to the various highlights in the town: Rainbow Falls, the old Stehekin Schoolhouse, Buckner Orchard and the Stehekin Pastry Company. We also enjoyed eating at the cafe and hiked the Agnus Creek Trail. Camped at "Lakeview." Here is the ferry company: ladyofthelake.com. Visited June 8-9, 2021.

I am glad to see the deck in downtown Stehekin. My crew built that in the summer of 1980.Our camp was at the old Peterson Golf course. Y.A.C.C. from Sedro Woolley. I worked at apple orchard and Buckner farm. I thank the Casey and Courtney family. They were kids.The book Meet Him in the Wildness was written there. I shall never forget this bless place.

I've had the privilege of visiting Stehekin three times over the last 5 years. We're from Washington and take family vacations in summer bringing in our ski boat from Snohomish over Steven's pass to lake Chelan. We then make the 50 mile journey up the lake for the day. I'm looking forward to going back this summer! Lake Chelan is one if not my favorite place in my home state.

Upper Lake Chelan compares to the beautiful Bavarian Koenigssee... but no brewery next to a Cathedral. I've been to the Koenigssee just once... it was a stunning. The beer was very good at the brewery. I've been to Stehekin many many times. Really don't miss out on the cheesy bread at the bakery. Rainbow Falls is worth seeing & I've stopped by many times (you can visit by bike from Stehekin). Mosquitos starting in the early evenings can be an issue certain times of the year. That far uplake the water is quite cold. Best to visit in Sept. & early Oct. VERY tranquil with far fewer tourists. Rent a car and go up river at 5 mph. So relaxing. Winters are harsh. One of the most beautiful places on Earth. Shockingly... 3rd deepest lake in the US with crystal clear water.

If you are this good at your “side-gig”, I can only imagine how great you are at your “real-gig” - I live in Chicago but I hope to see you in Jersey on a Sunday in the future, stay blessed and keep inspiring! What a peaceful looking place. The big national parks are truly amazing, but these places that avoid the big crowds may be even more enjoyable in my opinion. Always fun to find remote areas where things still work on the honor system and a handshake. Those places are few and far between! As always, the video was amazing and inspiring!

Went here 32 years ago for our honeymoon. Really wonderful place. We stayed at the bed and breakfast at the end of the lake. The person in charge found out it was our honeymoon and immediately put us in the best suite and let us use the bikes for free. Went canoeing at sunset, and waited in the reeds until the stars came out. Magical.

Best video of the bunch! Watched from Moab. I can’t believe I drove here from Indiana. My daughter is not enjoying it very much though, she seems in a better mood after she talked to Grandma on the phone and she said she would probably like Zion and Bryce better than Canyonlands. Oh, well Gabe and I thought it was gorgeous. Really impressive and underrated. I think Samantha enjoyed the Rockies more than she let on, and prefers the green scenery and not so much the desert. I just looked over and Sam and said maybe next trip we need to go to Washington State... looks like what she is describing as her likes. She smiled. I get it though, as I prefer forests, waterfalls, streams, mountains. I am still amazed at the little I’ve seen of Utah so far and am blessed to see it in my lifetime. I keep telling the kids...at the end of my life... one of the things they will remember is this crazy cross country trip by car. Something I always wanted to do due to Chevy Chase anyway :) Oh yeah driving from the Rockies to Moab is like the longest scenic drive I’ve ever seen in my life. Just wow.

Awesome boat trip and a great 'Way Through'. Just as well you had that trolley for your luggage to get to the campsite. Loved the honour system and in the UK we have a similar 'Honesty Box', which I love. The bikes were a great way of getting around and what an awesome sight Rainbow Falls was, totally cool! Lake Chelan was stunning and with a view like that I think my bike would have got home real late! Got to say I would be real happy with that streak as well, very well needed after all that bike riding mind and washed down with a super ice cream. Day 2 shuttle bus looked a real cool trip and what a way to enjoy those stunning views. What a great couple of days away with your daughter, cheers Alan

Wow! You caught me completely off guard with this place on several fronts. First, I was completely unaware of this place. Second, this place looked magical and so tranquil. I could easily imagine spending a couple days here just relaxing and exploring. This was a really nice video of your time at Stehekin. You gave us viewers at great glimpse of what the area has to offer. Love the humor about the “four mile” hike to the campsite, it hits really close to home. I am always picking walk-in campsites or stretching the truth a little on how long or hard hikes may be. The family is not always so appreciative, though. Our running joke is that it is just “a third of mile and around the bend”.

Wow! The drone footage really shows the scale of the mountains and especially the waterfall. I hope to get to the 3 national parks in WA some day (keep visiting the Eastern side as my bestie lives there). Will definitely add this to my list of must sees.

Hope you can get other there, Renee! Actually the only drone footage was outside the NP at the beginning. I was able to get the waterfall shots with my new 360 camera on a 10 foot selfie-stick. Amazing what that thing can accomplish!

Randy, I've just returned from an exhausting trip over to Wikipedia, regarding the challenge to see if I could help your term "Native American" to be more specific re. the source of the town's name--Stehekin. After about 15 min., I came up with the following: in the Salishan language family, there are 23 languages in SW British Columbia and NW Washington, the majority of which are in Canada. In the Interior Salish (SAIL-ish) group, there is a tribe called Chelan, which was historically in that area. So, that's a pretty good guess as the source of the name. No charge! LOL

Don't do the one day ferry trip. Go stay the night or two days. It is a long ride. Lake is over 1100 feet deep. Ferry is crowded in good weather.

I'm planning a possible trip, using your itinerary for guidance. I'm guessing you drove from Rainer and camped in Chelan for the night before boarding the ferry? You have a campground you recommend there, I see they have a State Park. Thank you, this looks great.

Excellent, Peter! Yes, from Rainier we camped at Lake Chelan State Park, site #144 before boarding the ferry. When we returned to Chelan, we drove over to North Cascaded NP - Newhalem Campground (great site at 116, Loop C). Stehekin was great! Enjoy!

Did your cell phones work here ?
@AmericasParks
@AmericasParks 2 жыл бұрын
I don't believe there was any service. Found this on the Internet: "You will be out of range of any cell phone service. There is a community satellite pay phone located near the boat dock if you would like to call out of the valley. A calling card (available at the General Store) is required to make a call on this phone." Enjoy!

Stehekin is over 50 miles away from cell service. Satellite internet is about the only connection available, and even then, it isn't good.

After watching your videos, I know your biggest fear: Answering your doorbell to the drone police. The solution is you'll have to make them watch your videos and pinpoint your 'outside national park' drone notations.
@AmericasParks
@AmericasParks 3 жыл бұрын
So right on, Mark!!!! On a previous video one guy commented w/o paying any attention to these notations and a lady refused to believe the other shots were from a 360 camera with a 10 foot selfie-stick. Still guilty w/o breaking any rules! lol!
