The Credenza - The mixed media pieces, tough VERY nice, distract me from the wood itself, or else it's just that lovely bit of grain across the front of the credenza just REALLY pops - more so than the wood does on the other pieces. This is a coincidence of form though. I do like your technique for creating the 3D texture in the front of the pieces, and I may just have to steal that one.

I'm amazed there are still people out there that know the value of true craftsmanship and are actually willing to pay for it. Ikea has really hurt our industry. The fact that people can get similar functioning pieces for 1/30th the price is a hard hurdle for us to convince them over. $30k minus materials and labor still makes a decent profit to live off of so good on ya! have you found better success if finding clients in commercial sector like this collection, I find business' are more willing to spend more than homeowners

There’s definitely a smaller market For high end custom, but they’re out there. This set was purchased by an hoa for a condo complex. Most of my clients are private individuals. I’ve found that I’m not equipped with machinery or hands to compete in most commercial jobs.

well, I bought my Volkswagen Polo 2016 at 11.450€ decently spect, just to put it in perspective. He's not charging a "premium", he's charging a stupid amount of money (three years of basic income for a single cabinet) for a pice of furniture. Not saying it is wrong (he can charge whathever the f* he thinks it fits, just to be clear) but definitely shouldnt be the norm as you cant expect regular people to pay such large amounts just for forniture, and I can only thank Ikea for allowing people to decorate and have a pretty decent space to live in.

Pretty cool, nice design, good work. Not worth 30,000.00. Whoever is buying your massively overpriced pieces are suckers. Or a bunch of rich pricks that have the money to throw into sentimental values. Just cause you put a cherry on a terd, doesn't create more value. Just like replacing parts on a vehicle before you sell it, the value never goes up from the parts you replace, that's the cost you eat. I guess thats my biggest gripe... why does it say it costs so much, you didn't freakin hand carve it.

Hey, it's verry cool what you are doing! I prefer No4. I would describe it like you gabe the front a "texture" that breaks up the massivenes of the pice. For the simple pices I think you could have made them better be breaking them up not with "texture" but by balancing the volumes differently or sth. I think it is actually harder to make simple pices not look a little plump or bulky. Don't want to take away anything from your work but highlite the chalnage you gave yourself. simplicity of design for maximum beauty is all about dimensioning. Humans are most attracted to symmetry, have you ever used golden ratio in any of your dimensioning, or are all dimensions stock and trade?
@SawyerDesign2 жыл бұрын
There are some ergonomic standards. Proportions are very important and golden ratio isn’t the only one. There arguments on whole number ratios, thirds, 2:1. I use those as a starting place. This is an atypical piece for me as humans are drawn to curves and this doesn’t have any
@johnnyb86292 жыл бұрын
@@SawyerDesign Yes, I do love your use of laminations to get those curves and curves are attractive like the hourglass shape of a nice big breasted women. I find design the most fascinating thing and even more fascinating the evolutionary backstory on how and why we are attracted to particular objects. Symmetry has causality in our evolution to either judge the health of individuals for procreation or for facial recognition to notice more often than not when a predator is bird dogging us for a meal. Automotive manufacturers know this and that's why you see facial features in the front ends of cars or the curves in the forms of expensive sports cars. Knowing this, a better challenge would be to make an object that has organic architecture but also be attractive, think Frank Lloyd Writes' Johnson Wax columns and their dendriform design and theo jansen strandbeests. They are a combination of organic forms that you can't keep from staring at and a desire to possess in some way. A better example of asymmetrical design that isn't traditionally attractive is a less known person Alexander John Jordan Jr, who inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright built his House in the Rock with many examples of asymmetry that is also very attractive. It is now part of the tacky attraction tour you go on in Wisconsin when traveling to the Dells but if you look past that you can see real beauty in the objects in that house.
