Yeah, I'm baffled by all the positive comments here. There was not one single thing about that build that was good. Zero craftsmanship. While aesthetics may be subjective, the end product sure looks like a pile of crap to me. There was certainly nothing 'incredible' in the video (at least not in a positive way) and the 'impeccable skill' was sorely missing as well.

I agree. Nothing uniform about the design...looks like 2-3 different styles of build in one piece. Also, why would you pre-drill holes for nails? Those nails will surely pull out in no time especially with the use/abuse that an outdoor table will take. Screws would be more appropriate.

All you need is $50,000 worth of tools and you too can have a table that looks like it's been built by an Indian and will last one winter. In the UK the expression 'as rough as rats' leaps to mind.

It's funny because I wish used to think I needed a bunch of tools in order to start thinking about turning a fallen tree into a table. But then I found videos that showed how to run powerless tools for the same result (Thank you Townsends youtube channel for sharing how to work with wood the 18th century frontier way!) You can skip half these steps using a froe to split the planks and planners to reduce the roughness. You might need to saw logs in shorter lengths, but you can do it for half the energy required; split with the froe about a quarter of the way and then angle it out spit splits the log down the middle. You'll only be able to do 1-3inch deep planks this way but I think it's a great way to not waste material .

No safety gloves, safety shoes, protective PPE, no pushing tool to avoid proximity with blade of the saw, and a lot more of unsafe working methods. It is about time that KZbin starts filtering a bit the videos to share safety culture among people watching videos. There are many other woodworkers' videos with proper use of PPE and safety precautions to watch.

I should think not, in a dry climate or house, but where this is, maybe both. It looks like a wet climate environment. Then again, these could be cedar or some such trees that are rot and insect resistant. These guys seem to know what they are about.

@@dejavu666wampas9 The table top is definitely Paulownia light weight and slightly harder than Balsa. Strong for its weight and a hardwood. Slightly durable. The legs may have been Paulownia also.
