Ok; professional and old Ethologist here. These two guys are actually VERY polite to each other. No brute force; just the very formal "head tussle" event. Put our heads together; 1,2,3, GO. This is Bison Sumo. Incredibly fast- it's easier to see the politeness if you play the video at 1/4 speed. The older fellow; the one who starts with the lady; is always in charge; the younger one who is a little bigger, but has no scars, is consistently being pushed backwards; every time. At the end, the Old Man- turns his butt to Junior, and says "I dare you, twerp." The twerp does not dare, in fact, and quickly finds something else to do, far away. Classic! And BEAUTIFULLY captured here. Some of those scars on the Old Man's sides might well be the result of such dares in earlier days- with the result of getting a quick horn through the hide... it's risky. These guys are SO polite I'm tempted to hypothesize that Junior may in fact be the Old Man's son or grandson. Do they know? I guarantee they do. My guess is based on years of watching horse herds; the stallion knows his offspring, and his behavior towards them even when mature, is radically more forgiving than strangers would receive.
@bejudson1384 Жыл бұрын
Very interesting summary. I do notice how often bulls assess the risk before reacting to a hopeful challenger, generally blocking access to the cow it accompanies. I agree most wildlife recognize their offspring. Thanks for commenting.
@konradcomrade4845 Жыл бұрын
The bulls started sctatching with the hooves first. Is that a sign what would come next? Doesn't the red colored car raise their blood pressure, knowing that Torreros use a red clored cloth to start and direct a bull attack? Some years ago I had a red car and when (initially) curious horses at a fence saw me coming close, they turned away their heads! They couldn't watch my car driving close by! I think "red" means blood for them, making them anxious (or aggressive if they were big bulls).

Some bison fights are fatal. Bison carefully prepares for a fight. The standoff may last several hours but the fight itself is short. Bison live in a highly organized bison community centered on the alpha-type male. Any stranger male that tries to approach other bison communities is destined to fight. Such a male is seen as an intruder or interruptor of the bison social order. This is where the 'merciless' and the 'amazing' meet together and unveil.

VERY thick fur/hair around head and 'cape.' You can see the dust/dirt being shaken out. You can feel sound vibrations in your chest from their grumbling, snorting

They literally took it to the streets

Not an animal behaviorist so I have no idea: once a confrontation is over do both animals immediately forget what happened and go their separate ways? Or do they hold grudges and get depressed about losing? Personally, I think they can't remember whether they won or lost.

I will wait for others more informed to respond. Thanks for the view.

Interesting question. I'm absolutely positive that they do remember who they fight and whether they lost or not, it's how dominance hierarchies function without memory of that it wouldn't work. In terms of forgetting and depressed about it and all that, that doesn't happen either because animals naturally release stress in situations like this by by fighting and shaking. Humans typically instead contain the stress, and even Force themselves to not shake while under an adrenaline rush. This is not good because the event stays inside of your body and messes with you. that's why a lot of people cope when they're extremely angry by breaking things or screaming loudly and then they calm down afterwards.. Just my 2 cents

What is the difference between Bison and Bull?
@archindigoproductions5524 Жыл бұрын
Bison is the name of the species and Bull is the name of a male Bovine animal. Bisons are Bovines so that means a male Bison is a Bull.
@Quareque Жыл бұрын
@@archindigoproductions5524Not necessarily of a bovine family.
