I totally sold so many of my possessions in the past and made over 1k for doing so. Otherwise, I gave a lot away or donated them. A lot of what you stated are definitely practices I have done and kept over the 18 years as a minimalist. It is cool to have these reminders so I can double check and make sure I keep the mentality I originally had. My kids have been raised as minimalists and just the other day one of my children bought two shirts and he gave me two shirts he has outgrown to donate. I love how he has thought out the one in one out mentality without me really telling him to do so (he is 15). clutter especially on countertops bothers me so much! haha. I love how clean your kitchen is. So refreshing. I donated my wedding dress about two years after I married (which was 20 years ago that I got married). I hope someone was able to buy it and use it. I used it for both my prom and my wedding. I am glad you didn't keep yours for too long too!

Love the video! My house is like 90% decluttered, atleast for my things and toddler. Spouse holds onto somethings but we compromise. The problem still for me is keeping it clutter free and to stop stress getting food or bored getting things. I also donate alot because every time i try to sell things it stresses me out alot and want it gone or try to keep things or know i wont get enough for it. I do feel guilt sometimes but now i think harder before getting things usually or return when possible

What about decluttering when your spouse doesn’t want you to get rid of things you’ve decided to declutter? (Toys, kitchen items, etc. Not his personal belongings)
@lightandmind774 ай бұрын
Usually, I say to just focus on your personal stuff and the stuff in the main living spaces and leave his personal things for him to declutter. :) But, if he doesn't want you to declutter stuff in the shared living spaces, that is a tough situation. Does he use the stuff that you are trying to declutter and that is why? Has he said his reasoning?

@@lightandmind77 He doesn’t want to get rid of something that we may end up repurchasing later. He also doesn’t mind “just storing it in the basement.” But those are things that are just accumulating that we’re not using 🤷♀️

@@SarahScheenstraI would suggest a “time will tell bin.” Put the items you want to declutter (that he isn’t ready to get rid of yet) into a bin and put the date on it and store it in the basement. And allow him a certain amount of time to go by and see if in that time if either of you missed any of those items or not. That will allow you to have the space in your home and it will give him time to realize that he doesn’t really need those items. And another tip to go by would be: if you can purchase it in less than 20 minutes for less than $20 then throw it out if you aren’t using it in this season of your life. I know, sometimes that seems like a waist of money. But if you do the time will tell bin first and you haven’t used those things in months or a year, then this rule would apply for those “what if” items.

My first husband went so far as to pull stuff I had thrown away out of the trash can, no matter how badly damaged it was. His hoarding got so bad that we couldn't use the front door and he wouldn't let me touch his piles. Of course, I got blamed for the mess by literally everyone, so I left.

I'm doing the 30 day challenge. Even though I'm getting rid of stuff it still looks clk

Ikr? Peter Walsh said that you have to get rid of half your stuff before you really see a difference. Right now I'm down to playing either/or - would I rather have this thing or that thing? I'm so frustrated that I just want to sweep everything into a garbage bag and be done, but that's too extreme for me right now.

@@lightandmind77 I love those dresses, I have some. I looked high and low for a cotton dress that long enough. They fit me and I'm 8 months pregnant. I CAN'T stand polyester.
@lightandmind774 ай бұрын
Me too! :) Totally agree! Such a difference. Once you feel the more natural materials, polyester starts to not feel as nice. Congratulations on baby! 🤍
