Hello, great videos. I bought book 17, is that the correct one? To the other bios contain more exercises?
@incrediblyusefulexercises8 ай бұрын
It depends on your goals. Playing through all of the exercises in vol 17 will take about 5-6 hours. I put the other books together to create 1-hour exercises to help with time management - especially college kids who are just learning to manage their time and prioritize exercises.

Cool exercise! I like it a lot. a quick question, should one also take into account the amount of hair used when the string length gets very short?
@incrediblyusefulexercises3 жыл бұрын
I definitely take the amount of hair into account, but I haven't really quantified how it affects the string. I guess, theoretically, when the hair is fully on the string for a very short string length, the string at the bottom of the hair is moving slower than the string at the top of the hair, so there could be some stifled vibrations going on. I tend to play with less hair in the very short string lengths, but I always experiment with it at some point. It's another rabbit hole I'll dive down at some point. :-) Thanks for the support, Alex!

I once had a vocal teacher relate breath control to using a bow on a string instrument.
@incrediblyusefulexercises2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Pauly. Yeah, I heard that a lot from a famous oboist named Ray Still. He always compared phrasing to up bows and down bows. It also applies the other way - I work with string players on phrasing by having them work on breath control.
