I started backyard chickens with 4 in 2021. And I've kinda been stumbing along trying to figure things out. I currently have 12. But I did lose 2 and I'm still not sure what caused their deaths. I've read books and watched videos but I'm not 100%. Nevertheless I have decided to incubate 8 eggs and hope. Chicken math just got me ❤❤

What is other plug for? Is it the turner? I just noticed mine came unplugged. Grandkids might have pulled it out accidently. I'm thinking it's the turner cord

Around the 8:35 mark in the video, I share what the plug-ins are ... 1 is the base unit to plug into (for the turner to work). The other is the electrical cord to plug into wall. I hope that answered your question. 😊

How many minutes does the kebonnix rotate
@ourlifesimplified
@ourlifesimplified 6 ай бұрын
If I remember correctly (I demonstrate it in 1 or both of my videos on the Kebbonix review) I think it just rotates once an hour. And it's just long enough to rotate the eggs about a 1/4 way turn.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have the same incubator so is it possible to add 3 more eggs. Thank you.
@ourlifesimplified
@ourlifesimplified 8 ай бұрын
Are you asking if it is possible to add 3 more eggs to the 12 slots it is currently designed to hold? I don't think so, as there are only 12 slots to hold 12 eggs max and to aid in turning the eggs. Let me know if that is what you were asking. I may have misunderstood. :) I appreciate you watching! and You're welcome!

Does anyone happen to have the manual? I’ve looked online and can’t find anything with the full manual. Mine didn’t come with one, I have no idea how to use it

I should still have mine... let me know if you're interested in me doing another video, basically showing the manual and you could do screenshots of it?? Let me know your thoughts on that..... How do you set up the automatic egg turner because mines not working
@ourlifesimplified
@ourlifesimplified 8 ай бұрын
If it's your first time using it, it should already be calibrated to start the 21 day count down ... if the unit has already been used, you can 'reset' the countdown by pressing the 'menu/ok' button along with the '-' button (not sure if this is at the same time or not). The reason I mention to 'reset' is because the egg turner doesn't turn on the last 3 days of the 21 day countdown... did you press the + sign to 'test' to see if it works?
@curlyyr6553
@curlyyr6553 8 ай бұрын
@@ourlifesimplified Yes, it is my first time using it and i did start the 21 day countdown and did test if it works and it did but its not automatic so im still wondering how to do that
@ourlifesimplified
@ourlifesimplified 8 ай бұрын
I misplaced by book of instructions.. but if I remember correctly, the automatic turner only turns once and hour, I think .. it's on its own timer as to when it will turn.

I was new to all this, this year. I was reading instructions in the manual... not sure the difference. I do know in tap water, there are minerals and chlorinated water... so not sure. You might be onto something. Do you use the same incubator?

@@janlegrange6687 Thank you so much! I just really got started 'growing' the homestead in 2021... I've always gardened, just on a very small scale, like a 4x8 raised bed. Being a Chicken mama is completely new to me in 2021. It is going well so far, considering working a full-time job too. This journey is my 2nd full-time job lol.. but I love it! I learn something new every year! It's always an experiment, as you're probably figuring out. Best of luck on your journey! and Thank you for watching!

I thought eggs weren't supposed to be cleaned
@ourlifesimplified
@ourlifesimplified 6 ай бұрын
They are not supposed to be cleaned, as in washed. You want to keep the 'Bloom' in tact ... if I mentioned 'clean eggs', I was referring to selecting the eggs with no poo on them. I actually collected these eggs from my ladies. Most of the time they are 'clean' as in no obvious gunk on it... but sometimes, there may be some poo. Is that what you were referring to?
@fishwanda
@fishwanda 6 ай бұрын
@@ourlifesimplified yes. Poo and dirt and whatever else gets on them. I thought there was a protective coating that was supposed to be on them. I'm not sure if it's poop or mud. Nothing but a speck here and there.
@ourlifesimplified
@ourlifesimplified 6 ай бұрын
@@fishwanda Yes, the 'protective coating' is called the 'bloom' ... But I didn't want any poo on the eggs due to the bacteria that would be present after the chicks start the hatching process (pipping and zipping) then after they're hatched. You're supposed to keep them in the incubator until they're dried and fluffy (My favorite stage! They're SO DARN CUTE!) Trying to keep them in as clean of an environment is best so they have a healthy start :)
@fishwanda

@@ourlifesimplifiedi see what you mean. When my chickens sit on their eggs, it doesn't look so good around the eggs. So far 100% hatch rate with my incubator
@ourlifesimplified
@ourlifesimplified 6 ай бұрын
@sherriwolf8524 the "bloom" is the protective coating. You can't see it. But if the egg gets wet or if someone washes egg (not w soap, just want water), then the bloom would be removed. Once the 'bloom' is removed, then bacteria or other contaminants can find its way inside the egg. Congrats on hatch rate! How "eggciting" !!!

You say wash them then say don’t wash them a few minutes later. I’m sorry but you should’ve at least edited your vids. Worsed how to video. 🤦🏻‍♂️
@ourlifesimplified
@ourlifesimplified 5 ай бұрын
'Clean' eggs, mean no poo on it when you collect the eggs... not washed eggs. Chicken owners know what that means... so collect CLEAN eggs, and do not wash them with water.
@swedishwolf7145
@swedishwolf7145 5 ай бұрын
I’ve had chickens for years, the eggs we’d eat we’d wash and ensure were clean. I currently have quail who don’t usually sit on their eggs and therefore needed an incubator. I don’t think you should assume everyone understands what you mean when you say clean your eggs just not with water. Your video looks like you set up this thing for the first time from where you had the egg rotator upside down to cleaning the eggs. I atleast had that first part correct. You should know what you’re doing before making how to videos for people that are doing it “for the first time”.

I also went back to listen to the video... at the 14:59 mark, I specifically state 'make sure they're clean. When I say 'clean' I don't mean wash them...'

@swedishwolf7145 if you watched the video all the way through from beginning to end... I also specifically state this was my 1st time using this incubator and it was an experiment for me.... this video demonstrates how easy it was to set up and when something didn't work right, how easy it was to correct.
