This was the first album I ever bought on release date. My mom took me to Best Buy and dropped me off at school late so I could listen throughout the day. 7th grade 😂. I think you guys would appreciate SCIENCE and Fungus Amongus. Definitely a lot heavier with jazz, funk, hip hop, and metal influences. Brandon basically was a melodic rapper in the beginning lol. Incubus is truly making genre-less music 🙌🏿

So their breakout album you could say is Make Yourself, as that had their biggest hit to date on it, titled Drive. It was their second studio album, being released two years after S.C.I.E.N.C.E. Incubus did have an album prior to S.C.I.E.N.C.E. called Fungus Among Us, but for some reason that’s not counted among their studio albums. Make Yourself also had Pardon Me and Stellar, and all these hits were way more radio-friendly than anything we’d seen from Incubus before. So it’s gotta be Make Yourself for the band’s “breakout” album. Peace.

Incubus had 3 albums before Morning View - the first 2 were moderately successful and had a bit of an underground following with the 2nd album having a couple of hits. Their style/sound changed quite a bit between the 2nd and 3rd album too (they were slightly more ska/punk/nu-metal imo on the first 2 albums - think early RHCP, big inspiration for Incubus). The 3rd album really catapulted them though with songs like 'Drive' and 'Pardon Me' and Morning View continued, if not elevated them even more. So many good songs on that album.

I imagine everyone in the comments has already mentioned this, but Incubus is incredibly diverse. This album was their first one that heavily leaned into a more melodic and "pop" sound, but still having an edge. They started as a more heavy, funk rock type band then started experimenting with different sounds. A Crow Left of the Murder is where they started developing their modern sound which is a bit more progressive and having jazz elements. If Not Now, When is in my opinion their weakest album, while still having some of my favorite songs of theirs. I'm a huge Incubus fan so I'm terribly biased lol but even their "bad" material is good.
@fmlAllthetime2 жыл бұрын
They're a consistent band of artists. Kinda like a Slayer, Rancid or DMX. Nothing they put out is bad. Maybe not as up to par with their other work, but not bad. They don't have a hard fall off period like a Metallica, Kanye or Green Day.

Incubus is one of my favorite bands of all time! This album was one of my most played during my childhood. Morning View and Make Yourself and perfect, no skips type of albums. Their newer stuff isn’t as exciting, but they haven’t put out a single bad project. even their older, more experimental type stuff is still a fun listen. Incubus really knows how to create a vibe with their music. they’re very rhythmic in their approach with the guitar and bass laying down the framework, and Brandon Boyd providing that awesome melodic touch with his incredible voice. and the way the guitarist Mike breaks away from the rhythm and incorporates those melodic runs makes him a very unique and underrated player. And DJ Killmore is instrumental in their sound, he helps create the atmosphere with his sampling and scratching. Incubus really knows how to make catchy, emotional, vibey music. and they are very well respected in the history of alternative rock. Songs y’all need to check out: “Nowhere Fast”, “When It Comes”, “Make Yourself”, “Nice To Know You”, “Have You Ever”, “Sick Sad Little World”, “Talk Shows On Mute”…I could go on forever

There was a time in my life when I would not have given Incubus a chance, for exactly the reason Ryan touched on. I had this immature elitism, specifically with music, that kept me in my head, analyzing how complex/virtuosic the music was, rather than just "do I like it?" I am glad that I was late to hearing anything from Incubus. I hadn't heard anything from them up until 2013 (which seems crazy to me) when a co-worker turned me on to them. I love Incubus. I love the melodic hooks they write. I love the rhythmic accents. I love the creative elements they throw in. It's not full of complex polyrhythms or unexpected key changes, but dayumn it's beautiful. Glad you guys did this. Keep digging. As much as I like this song, it isn't even top 10 from this group for me. Here are some more of my favorite songs they've done. Pardon Me Make Yourself Nice to Know You Warning Here in My Room ps: Also, @RGFam Reacts posted a couple more from my Incubus playlist, Stellar and The Warmth, both are great imo.
