@@joshiejames I was 14, entering the living room of a strangers house party, about 10 people all sat down smoking, not talking, just listening to the music. I asked who was playing, they told me Incubus. I had heard Pardon Me a week before from my big sister. I couldn't believe what i was hearing.
@justinsane80009 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say Mike is an underrated guitarist. I don't intend to come of as demeaning in that statement either. I think anyone who knows Incubus knows pretty darned well that he's certainly among the most original guitarists out there. Perhaps it's more that he and/or other members of the band Incubus don't seek the same spotlight as more "rated" guitarists/bands do. Some individuals may gain satisfaction by having that spotlight... others just do what they do and do it well. That's Mike.
@voteZDLR7 жыл бұрын
They sell out stadiums. It's not that they're not attention seekers, it's just the record industry doesn't emphasize rock music like it used to. That all began to end about 15-20 years ago. They were there for the end of it though. You couldn't turn on MTV at a certain point without hearing "Drive" by Incubus, that was around the time the album this song came out as well. They were GREAT, they still are, just this idea that they're not in it to win fame or fortune or anything, come on, that's just false. They're doing what they can, and you can tell from this video alone they were getting ready to rock an arena or even a stadium, hard to tell. They do sell out stadiums/arenas though. To this day. That's the hallmark of a successful band if I've ever heard of one.

How does one even determine if an artist is underrated in the first place? It is a specious claim made by dipshits.
@KickflipGnasty2 жыл бұрын
@@voteZDLR Just because Incubus had radio and MTV success doesn’t mean that Mike was appreciated as much as he should have been as a guitarist. Those are two different things dude. Commercial success and guitar accolades aren’t interchangeable.

@___717.2 жыл бұрын
@@KickflipGnasty of course. I'm not saying I think skill and soul are mutually exclusive. On the contrary, I actually think both skill and soul inform each other to help expand a musician's potential. Some people just don't know what "playing with soul" actually means. They think it means imitating faces and pretending the music is having more impact than it really is. On the other hand, players who mistake technical prowess for talent are a dime a dozen.
