Beautiful Teoh! I recently purchased Monte Amiata thanks to this video, it has such a gorgeous glow to it and it's a great substitute for those who dislike the opacity of yellow ochre, tfs!

Mary Algar I don't know which is more economical but the sticks are really convenient.

So interesting to watch you paint and mix colors, and how quickly you go! (yes, i know you speed up the video, but still, you go fast!) There was one point near the end as you were daubing on the shadows that i'd thought you'd gone way overboard and messed the whole thing up but then it was perfect when it all dried. Thank you for your generous sharing of knowledge, technique, and your calm, friendly manner :-)

Great video! I use a similar triad often, but use Prussian instead of Indanthrone. MA Raw Sienna is one of my "everyday" colors--absolutely love it. I had never mixed it with the PG36 and loved that mix. Thanks again!

I'm curious. How long did it take you before you made the "jump" into Daniel Smith paints? I'm envious you have a seller nearby, as my only access is online. I admit, I have never used DS paints, as I've got too many sets (M.Graham, Schmincke, etc) that I prefer to use before bringing new paints in. As for the video, these colors are wonderful and as always, you provide such a rich, vibrant presentation with great close-up visuals... not sure if you're aware of how great that is for a viewer! Thank you and cheers! :)
@InLiquidColor7 жыл бұрын
I know I'm not Teoh, but hoping to help as the three you mentioned are my top three favorite brands. DS were actually the first professional paints I tried, which may have been a mistake for my wallet :p however MGraham and Schmincke are my runner ups. They're all fantastic and I go to them for different reasons. Daniel Smith for texture and luminosity, MGraham for vibrancy and saturation, and Schmincke for silky soft colors :)
@MDCampbell7 жыл бұрын
Hi ILC! Thank you for chiming in! I'm fairly new to making videos, and just subscribed to your channel! Clearly, you've got a lot of experience and information to share, so I'm excited to dig into your videos and share in your insight! I try to bring something a little different to the KZbin table, so I'm also looking forward to learning from your approach to videos/editing and such, as well! Believe it or not, I've been laying out all my paints lately when I work. As an illustrator, I'm afforded the luxury of my clients not caring about lightfastness or pigment info - they only care how the piece looks in print or on their site. So, a few recent pieces combine W&Newton, MGraham, Prima Confections, and Schmincke, all in one piece. The reason is because when i work, sometimes convenience colors are just faster than mixing, and I have such a broad palette to choose from this way. It's not typical, mind you. Just new. Thank you again and glad to connect! Cheers! :)

+M.D. Campbell I started using Daniel Smith when I was provided several sample tubes for testing by a local shop. Their quality is good. But it would be difficult for me to differentiate them from artist grade watercolour from other brands. Most artist grade paints are of equivalent quality in my opinion.

Goodness, Organic Vermilion looks vibrant. Any idea how the hue compares to WN Cadmium Scarlet? I've always been under the impression that Naphthol Scarlet's a little redder than WN Cad Scarlet, but seeing it here, now I'm not so sure.
@teohyc7 жыл бұрын
I've not used WN Cadmium Scarlet before. Note that Organic Vermilion isn't totally lightfast. ASTM rating is II instead of I.
@SoulKeever7 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know. Lightfastness II is still very good, and it's absolutely suitable for professional work. I wouldn't hesitate to use it if it met my hue requirements. Anyway, you should try cadmium scarlet sometime if you can get a hold of it; it's my favorite cadmium color, by far.

Such a nice sketch! Do you suggest that ds yellow ochre can be replaced with Monte Amiata natural sienna?
@teohyc4 жыл бұрын
Both are good. Yellow Ochre is more yellow and very nice and quicker for painting light yellow subjects which are difficult to paint with diluted yellow paint.

How long did the sketch take before the paint, I would struggle knowing where to begin.
@teohyc7 жыл бұрын
+Big C It was a very quick sketch. Maybe half and hour. The shapes are not too complicated and I only drew on one page so it is not that time consuming. You can start anywhere. But have in mind what you want to contain in the scene before drawing, and also keep that in mind while drawing. That way you can fit everything in.
@capbin1467 жыл бұрын
Teoh Yi Chie Thanks for the advice and answer. I am not too bad at perspective but you summed up my problem the scale i.e. Planning what and how to fit in. Practice practice practice and keep watching you. I watch The mind of watercolor and owings art, they both complimented your channel, so its good that the people I follow are following each other I should be doing something correct.😉😁👍

Hi Teoh. My wife and I watch all your videos all the time. I have watched unbelieveable amounts of art-related videos on YT in many media and your videos are some of the best on YT. We are really big fans. I must say though that this adding of 20 seconds of black at the end of your videos so that us cattle can add to your overall watch time in your youtube stats is getting increasingly frustrating. You might want to rethink it. Thx.

Thanks. The black screen at the back should have 4 big rectangles that link to other related videos. Unfortunately sometimes they do not show up.
