"United Skates" doc brought me here. I had NO IDEA of the roller culture of African Americans. None ! but then, I'm a 62 y.o. white chick from Canada, so thanks for opening my eyes. Now I'm watching all these videos of the skating and just loving it ! There is something about the big dudes doing it that just charms me somehow. Like, these big guys probably aren't viewed as the most athletic, or graceful by co-workers or friends. But then they put on skates and feel the music... and they just look so incredibly graceful and at ease.

This is one of the best video and Music mixes, I've seen. It reminds me when I skated. I learned how to skate in 1975, at Empire Roller Rink, in B'klyn, NY. Since then I, lived in skates One time during the transit strike I, skated from 178 Street to Canal and Broadway ( 8 1/2 miles). I held a job at River Bank State Park, as a Roller Skate Monitor. I skated 7 hours a day, 6 days a week. Then ride my bike from 145 St. to 178 St. to and from work (3 miles round trip). Then I was most fit. Some of the Rinks I stated; Empire, Spin Easy, Roxy, Park Circle, The Garage, Dominican Republic, California, Virginia and elsewhere. Show less

@@malcolmknox8130 First thing I felt that breeze in my face and I thought Heck Yeah! Why not! I'm doing it! Then . Not trying to put the fear of God into anyone but about 8 weeks ago I had a terrible freak bicycle accident and broke my right arm a few inches down from my shoulder. Never had a broken bone in my body. Riding my 15 speed I had an indecisive moment of road or sidewalk and got on a patch of sand and flipped off the bike and headfirst landed all 115 or so lbs onto my right shoulder. Don't ask me! I must have defied some kinda law! Oh the pain is incredible. Doc says 14 weeks if recuperation. The two halves of the break didn't shift and stayed locked together doc says it's something like vxxxxxxxxxvvvv whole arm was dark black & blue& purple. Still can't believe that was my arm. Couldn't dress myself for at least 2 weeks then needed assistance. Still struggling to get my R arm into a shirt first then other arm. And yesterday slipped in snow that we get here in North Carolina once a year! Caught myself with butt and a little left shoulder. If it had been my right? It would have been excruciating pain. On that happy note! I invite you all to come hang out in my face book page. I put some pretty snow pics up there yesterday. It would be very awesome to hang out with some people I have something more than fb in common with; can you do me a favor!? Let me know you are Roller Skater and where you're from. Wow, I can barely walk let alone doing something like this. This is great fun, and I know its good exercise. Where I live they closed fown the Rinks because of low attendance , most of the decline started in the 1990's the rinks became gang meet up places, then fights happened more than skating, then parents of younger folks decided playing video games at home was safer for their kids. Watching some of the videos , I see more Adults than teens even on skates at the rink, my area never had Adults skating unless it was a Monitor. This was so great to see , everybody having fun, no fights or disrespecting anybody, just enjoying the mood and music with friends. NICE, SO RELAXING, and a new way to discover the opposite sex to meet and have something in common. It seems like it would be funny to see two big dudes and one says to the other, "hey man can you lace me up". Just saying!!! Please no disrespect intended, just a joke..
