Create Realistic Jet Scenes in Adobe After Effects - part 2

In this video tutorial we continue from part 1 - creating realistic jet scenes in Adobe After Effects using Videocopilot Element 3D and Jet Strike. In part 2 we cover animating the camera and jet as well as setting up the shadows.
You will need a copy of Adobe After Effects with Videocopilot's Element 3D and Jet Strike installed.

Your tutorials are very refreshing. Finally someone who isn't trying to be Andrew Kramer and just gets to the point. I like Andrew's tutorials, but it is annoying to no end when someone keeps wasting time trying to emulate his jokes during a tutorial. If I wanted stand up I would go find a mitch hedberg video. You also have some very clever ideas. Not sure why I never thought of loading in the texture maps and creating shadows there. Good stuff! Keep it up. What you do is extremely helpful and done very very well.

If you had the tail fins as a separate element object parented to the same motion null and turned on ambient occlusion, would that deliver a reasonable tail shadow without the animated masks?

I think that might work to give you soft shadows - in overcast lighting conditions. But for shots that are in full sun you need dark, hard edged shadows

How did you do the wing movement? I am talking about the little wings for the jet movement. When the jet rotate to 90 degress this wings are animating for real look. How did you do that? Are they apart from the model? And you animated them yourself or is it an animation with model?

Are you able to enable "casts shadows" on your light to create the shadows on your jet instead of creating custom texture maps?

I know this comment is 2 years old but it actually just saved my project. I couldn't figure out how to use the Raytraced shadows in Element V2 and the whole time it was in the options for the lights haha

Nice tutorial. Only problem that I'm confused with his the point light. In part 1 of this tutorial when I added the point light into my scene it didn't reflect off of the metal material as yours did. The point light instead illuminated the Jet like yours did except the light doesn't reflect. Anyone know how to fix this?

Great tuto, dude... finally I got another pc to follow this kind of tutorial lol... so, I did the same, it was so great the result... but a question.... what about this: when I choose the texture after to set up with solid layer with mask, in setup element 3d I choose this to the body setting, after to confirm the airplane got white, also that sphere below where it shows how it's going on... so, why is happening this? but I saw that in the result I got the same as yours... thanks anyway....you got my sub now

Ive also had that error happen to me sometimes... I have no idea what it is. I usually have to purge AE's memory and quit it, then do a whole restart and it fixes the problem. Best to contact Video Copilot tech support

IndependentVFX The elevators must point up , I am not 100% sure but On this plane Elevators and Ailerons works together as elevons plus the f-22 got vector thrust so you need to give movement to these surfaces too.From your angle is not visible but for featured videos :)

Finally. Followed everything from the tutorial. Check out my video. And, of-course you have been credited :) Element 3D- Jet Fighter Test And, with the stealth fighter, do you need a relfection map? Although i have added lighting such as ambient light; spot light; the jet still looks dark and dreary and no reflections lol.
