I am a former AC-130 gunner. That last flash is still a bit big but that will work for theatrical purposes. That would be the 105mm howitzer. The 40mm flash is about 20% of that flash . The 105 is single shot and at best can fire one every 20-30 sec. The 40mm in rapid fire is 100 rounds per minute.

WOW! Awesome to get a comment from somebody whose operated the real thing. What altitude would you fire that 105mm from or is that sensitive information?
@stevesiroissr61652 жыл бұрын
@@IndependentVFX nothing sensitive. But typically between 10-18k ft.
@IndependentVFX2 жыл бұрын
@@stevesiroissr6165 interesting... I would have thought altitude would be really dangerous for MANPADS
@stevesiroissr61652 жыл бұрын
@@IndependentVFX Now that is when it becomes tricky and sensitive. Let’s put it this way, they have things that keep them very safe

Looks great. The only thing that gives it away is the fact that the smoke behaves as if it was fired from a stationary gun. It should move into the distance quickly much like the engine exhaust would.

Really great tutorial, as usual! Just a quick tip, using the "Generate 3D Posistion" feature of Element is a much faster and easier way to position objects and lights around your model. And you can use the "Mesh Visibility" function to isolate the canon and make it recoil when it fires! :)
@IndependentVFX8 жыл бұрын
Thats a great tip on the cannon! Thanks for that! I had another crazy stupid method I was playing around with using colour keys in the texture map. Mesh visibility makes way more sense!

Sick as usual! You should do tutorials on The metropolitan pack, as know one has mastered those yet and I bet you'd make them look better.

Hi Paula - so Im assuming you know to access Jet Strike via the Element interface in After Effects? I Think all it does it install the models and textures to your hard drive and then the "app" just gets accessed through Element in After Effects. On my Mac, If I look inside the AE folder there is a plugins folder, and inside there is a Video Copilot folder with Element installed as a plugin. If you install the latest version of Element then I think it has the Jet Strike functionality built in. When you install Jet Strike you are actually just copying the models and textures to your drive.
