Amazing episode. Lake Trout are a fun species to fish for. I have only caught a couple small ones through the ice but im hoping to catch some more lakers very soon. I am a huge fan but I have to agree with some of the other comments about the lack of sonar views in this and your other shows. That is the most exciting part of watching. Check out Clayton Schick to see how it is done. Also why no mention of any of your gear except the jig head. Rod, reel, line, leaders?

mnsportsman 700 where I’m from we don’t have many lakes with lakers and of the ones we do are long drives and have little to no access unless by tracked vehicle. If you want a large fish here its going after snot rockets and we do have monsters on a daily basis, as of note we only have one lake with bass (very small ones), no crappie, no bluegill, no muskie, no ice fishing clubs to clear lake roads etc our fish world is pretty much perch, walleye, snot rockets, river trout. IDO doesn’t even have my province listed for posting that’s how limited I am....lol.....but watching James and Pat catch the big ones does look like fun but I’m still a walleye guy....lol

What do you use for a leader when fishing for lake trout that size? Can you run braid straight to the hook?

15# floroucarbon. We do not tie direct with braid.

Fun episode to watch. Where is the public access they used in the second part of the show? Also, is there any strategy to dead rigging or using a tip-up as a second line? I am mostly a walleye guy but would love to give this a try. Thanks!

That's enough rod. Use #15 floro for leader and you're good to go.
