The fixed dimensions of the template can be solved by applying an 'Object Style' to the text frame. In the Object Styles options you can use the 'Auto Size' feature to automatically set the height of the width of the text frame.

I'm totally new to data merge and have only started trying to use it today. I was trying to make a data merge from an excel file (csv) where the short text within a single box was about to change. I ran into some problems though and I don't know exactly why, I only have a theory. In my document I have 14 pages, but there was only one of them that had a placeholder with the data merge header drawn into it, and I wanted the other pages to remain still and not being altered or copied. Is that possible to do in some way?? Or is every single page inside the document always copied or altered with data merge? The thing that happened was that the entire document, the 14 pages, multiplied for each time the page with the data merge variable created its new page, meaning I ended up with a 5010 page document 🫤 Do you have a fixer for this? Really appreciate it- and thanks for a great video 🙏🌸

If not, do you have a tip or advise how to tackle this with Data Merge, or would you use a third party plugin for Indesign?

Another datamerge restriction is that you can't add paragraphs with bullets and numbering. When you choose to remove blank lines from empty fields, the record is gone, but the bullets or numbers are not!

I'm using the latest AdobeIndesign CC on a Mac, in my tests, after the select the data source (csv) even choosing ALL RECORDS to merge the option RECORDS TO MERGE still disabled, and I can not select multiple records. I tried several times, but the option to select multiple records remain disabled. 🙁

Is your document set up as spreads? Data merge does not work with spreads, only single pages. To change it go to File>Document Setup. In the dialog box deselect "facing pages". If the master page where you tagged the data has two pages, delete one.

I am putting together a program for a rewards ceremony. each page has two columns, which contain 15 names each. below the name is the department name. the dept name can be up to 3 lines. when the dept name is 1 line, I end up with two empty lines of space in that text field, instead of the text field auto resizing. how can I fix this?

The problem is, if an image is out of the bounds of the page, the merged file will contain the image out the bound... How can we ask to the soft to CUT these images to the boundaries of the page ?

Thanks you very much for this video, its really useful! I still have a problem: "multiple records" options is not available in my document. I mean I can't change from "single records" to "multiple records", that field appears in grey with no option to interact. Any clue why this happen? Thanks!

maybe greek alphabet glyphs are missing from the font you are using? helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/error-fonts-currently-available-incopy.html

@@lucareginato5562 thank you for your concern, but I tried several fonts (even myriad pro, which is one of the most "greek friendly" type font). Every time I save the excel as a txt or csv, a message informs me that the workbook contains features that will not work or may be removed
