India Completes First Major Defence Export with Delivery of BrahMos Missiles to the Philippines
India has delivered the first batch of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines under a $375 million deal signed in January 2022. New Delhi signed a deal with Manila to reportedly equip its marines with missiles. The delivery marks India’s first major defence equipment export. The Indian Air Force used its American-origin C-17 Globemaster aircraft to transport the missiles, jointly developed by India & Russia. The Philippines has received the cruise missiles amidst rising tension with China. Manila will reportedly deploy these missiles in the coastal area to protect it from regional threats.
