This is a trailer only ... the full 41 minute video was available on Sellfy as a chargeable item. However, I have decided to release the second part through You Tube and will, in all probability, release the full Part 1 on You Tube eventually. Please watch this space !!
We follow a 2006 chartered steam train from Siliguri (after a brief visit to Jalpaiguri) to the terminus in Darjeeling, 48 miles away and 2100 metres (6890 feet) higher in the Himalayan foothills. Part 1 covers the journey from Siliguri to Tindharia, where the company's workshops are based. The DHR 2ft gauge line is seen crossing the 5ft 6in gauge Indian Railways mainline. There follows a lengthy section of street running before the railway commences its climb into the mountains. During the steepest part of the climb, there are a number of loops (spirals) and reverses (zig-zags) in order to gain altitude in a short distance. Later on the journey to Darjeeling, there is some spectacular street running right through the middle of village shopping streets. These will feature in Part 2 of the video. The line became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
