It's an "Endo atmospheric interceptor missile" but can also hit at "Low exo atmospheric" targets... However we are also developing "AD-2" missile as well which will be a powerfull exo atmospheric interceptor missile with anti satellite capabilities and can be compared to America's "SM-6 block 2A" anti ballistic missile

Sir, BMD phase 1 is already active . BMD phase 1- PAD(exo atmospheric) , AAD(endo atmospheric). Range 1000-3000km BMD phase 2(for China): 2 new missiles capable of intercepting intercontinental ballistic missiles with range of 5000km and capable of being deployed from warships.

My humble Little clarification..... BMD phase two does not means second layer called AAD. AAD and PAD is two interceptor part of BMD ph 1 which can easily tackle missile with 2000km range. BMD ph I is already active and that containt two interceptor (PAD and AAD) This test was conducted for BMD phII which again contains two interceptors (AD1 and AD2). This is for intercepting missile of range of 5000km. I hope this give some clarification
