Hats off to the indefatigable efforts of Vinod Krishnan and Anand Kumar! Trauma is an understatement to describe the atrocities hurled on elephants to appease the farmers/locals. We're capable of better solutions to co-exist. Stealing the habitats of Wildlife is not one. Technology is the game-changer here. And, human-population seriously needs to be kept in check. When the day comes that these elephants can grow and cultivate crops, develop vaccines and cure diseases , invent amazing technologies like the light bulb and internet, explore our solar system etc . like us human beings can I'm going to say the priority must be the safety and prosperity of human beings. Like it or not we are Gods most sacred and special creation, human souls are precious an elephant is a beast of the field. God gave us Charge and Dominion over the creatures of the earth, not equlity. This young gentlemen seems out of touch with the plight of these poor farmers who have to deal with the threats of these hostile and dangerous animals without any help or protection from their government. So are they supposed to let their families starve so these elephants can gorge on their crops without deterence? I cant believe this is even a question?Human Beings Come First period. The elephant need to learn to take a different walking paths and adapt. The farmers need a caring government about the people that grow their food, instead the beasts destoying their lives get protected by out of touch trust fund babies like the kid making this film. The government needs to step up and take control of these animals and protect their farmers from the destructive beasts. This is a ridiculous "Issue" in my opinion. When the day comes that elephants are able to grow and cultivate food, cure diseases and develop vaccines, invent amazing technologies for the betterment of mankind , write and speak languages, etc like we can , then we can discuss who has priority over the land. India has the second highest population in the world next to China. Time they stop building out and build up . They are also in the top 5 countries in the world for pollution in land water and air. I definitely had sympathy for the rice farmer the same thing happened in Africa. The African have night watchers to deter the elephants. I’m happy to hear the farmers will get compensation and I think the elephants deserve better respect and protection too. I just watched an episode where the harassment to elephants and one was lit on fire and burned to death. Elephants never forget and some of the cruel acts done to them is generationally traumatizing . Being the worlds largest land animal there is a reason they don’t fear people and they should never have to.

These people are missing a HUGE opportunity! The student's NGO has the right idea for sure, but an enterprising person would set up local tourism to work with it as well! Wildlife brings in BIG money for all levels of local economies from drivers, to restaurants, hotels, vendors, etc. They want compensation for destruction of crops built on the elephant's lands but miss out on possible tourism which would provide a ton more if set up properly.

Elephants have come to raid the farm in search of food. Forests department of tamilnadu will insist on farmers having crops such as turmeric, chillies which the elephants don’t raid as food. But farmers don’t listen and are greedy to grow sugarcane, rice, bananas, mangoes which elephants will feast on. They have to use fireworks to chase elephants away. Then forest department will use kumki elephants(trained to wrestle) to chase the wild ones away.

You can't question the farmers because their life depends on the crops You can't obviously talk to the elephants because it's their planet too and all they need is food. Their only remaining choice is allocate land for growing feed for the Elephants that is filling and nourishing and satisfying. their not getting the right food so their eating tons of plants that does not fulfil their needs. lure them away from those areas that are sensitive for human survival and into areas that can sustain these large animals and cull out the older animals and use a little common sense, animals must not be left to just breed unchecked until they have eaten themselves out of house and home. I believe if you can geld a horse I think they can do the same with an elephant. India is so packed with people without birth control themselves that it's no wonder there is not enough food for even a small village so control your animal herds and control your own.

Yes, i saw other video where some indian farmers built a ditch around their crops and then when a elephant family fell into the ditch during the night, the following morning farmers did help the elephants to get out of the ditch and then the farmers made some firecracker noise to send the elephants back into the forest and the elephants waved thank you to them and went back into the forest...

That was not intentional... It was a trap meant for wild pigs... No one in kerala would even think about doing such thing intentionally... There is a reason why elephants are our state animal its because of our unconditional love for them... Many great bull elephants have killed several people .... There are even titles like this tusker killed 3 or 8 etc. But we only capture them on extreme cases..... Moreover this documentary is in karnataka.... Solution is very simple. Do not let farming close to forests. Only if there is access to food grown by farmers, the elephants will come to eat. Why are farmers cultivating crops so close to the forests? I think, you should remove farmers rather than elephants!!

14:34 the problem is they are so destructive that even them walking through a field can destroy the crops that can feed hundreds for a year. The farmers are already under heavy debts due to unpredictable weathers, they just cannot risk anything more. You can check internet for rising amounts of farmer suicides due to debts. No farmer in India will now allow their kids to be a farmer fearing for their future. It is easy for people to sit at home and complain about them, but engineers and doctors can't feed billions of people.

Do you have any idea how much a grown elephant would consume every single day, just imagine how much it would be for a herd. And you expect poor subsistence farmers to take care of it. That is absurd.

In some places like Odisha, elephant fodder (plants that elephants eat) are being planted around forest edges (before the agricultural area starts) to avoid wild elephants from marching forward towards crops. Wildlife park rangers will tell you first thing not to feed wild elephants because once they know they can get food from you, they will keep coming to you for food and if you are unable to feed them, they can attack you or get aggrresive..they are intelligent so they even march forward and extend/insert their trunk into passing by vehicles if people from vehicles have fed them at any point (example: you can see this issue in some videos of elephant corridors/highways in srilanka where a wild-elephant does not cross the corridor but deliberately waits on the road, comes forward and tries to to stop the passing-vehicle in hopes getting food from the driver/vehicle, some wild elephants who have been fed by humans previously wait patiently to get food from humans passing by on the corridor-roads but some wild elephants get bold and aggressive towards the human/vehicle so its better not to feed them). Its safe for humans and wild elephants both as long as the wild-elephant does not recognize/find out that he can get food from humans..that way wild elephant will not bother getting closer to human and will go on his own path towards the forest...Voice for asian elephants society by Sangita Iyer is working on establishing elephant-friendly fencing so that farmer's crops also don't get damaged and elephants also don't die...feeding a trained/tamed elephant living in an elephant-camp in presence of a "Mahout/elephant trainer" is fine and a different story but feeding an untamed wild elephant is a big No-No...

I have a strong comment for the creators of this video. When the day comes that these elephants can grow and cultivate crops, develop vaccines and cure diseases , invent amazing technologies like the light bulb and internet, explore our solar system etc . like us human beings can I'm going to say the priority must be the safety and prosperity of human beings. Like it or not we are Gods most sacred and special creation, human souls are precious an elephant is a beast of the field. God gave us Charge and Dominion over the creatures of the earth, not equlity. This young gentlemen seems out of touch with the plight of these poor farmers who have to deal with the threats of these hostile and dangerous animals without any help or protection from their government. So are they supposed to let their families starve so these elephants can gorge on their crops without deterence? I cant believe this is even a question?Human Beings Come First period. The elephant need to learn to take a different walking paths and adapt. The farmers need a caring government about the people that grow their food, instead the beasts destoying their lives get protected by out of touch trust fund babies like the kid making this film. Pretty arrogant shoving your beliefs down the farmers throats whether they like it or not? I think you need to go live for one year in their shoes. I am with the marginalized farmers of your country, unlike most Americans who are clueless regarding this situation. who see elephants as cool because they get to visit the in the zoo instead of living in fear of their destruction.. Americans need to put their checkbooks away and stop funding the arrogant elite environmentalists like the kid in this movie. Makes me sick, the farmers should stop growing food for you ungrateful people until they get help. One last thing if the elephants are so "intelligent", who do they drown and get stuck in 2 ft of water, or get hit by a car? Seems unintelligent to me?
