AHWR as developed by India for using Thorium as fuel (Stage III) is a solid fuel reactor very similar to conventional reactor (Stage I). For more efficient use of Thorium as fuel ( Stage III) India should continue research on Molten Salt Liquid Fuel Reactors which are more efficient but having technological challenge (High temperature molten salt corrosion.).

A great achievement indeed. It is not like Americans lacked the technology to achieve it, instead a professor in a American University came up with a salt based reactor for U233 in 1950's itself. But the Americans with their abundant uranium reserves lacked the zeal to put this into motion and were and are stuck at basic nuclear power production. So it is both technical as well as a mindset victory of Bharat. Kudos to our scientists as well as political zeal to make this happen.
