Just because they allow foreign corporations to operate in their country doesnt also mean they have to allow them to pollute. Seems more of an issue with priorities of economic growth over welfare and wellbeing of the population by the Indian government.

How To Live In Harmony With Nature And Reduce Pollution 1. Many Production Companies Which We Do Not Need Actually For Human Beings Has To Be Stopped We manufacture so many products and it is creating pollution. So if we minimise our products, pollution would be less. We produce so many things which we do not need, like cold drinks, leather products, potato wafers, chips, fruit juices, chocolates, biscuits, pickles, ice creams, etc. Cold drinks, fruit juices, pickles, ice creams, etc. Should be cooked at home only. If we stopped producing this things which are not required for humans, so much pollution could be reduced. If we colour the clothes pollution occurs. So if we don't colour our clothes, the pollution resulting from colouring the clothes can be stopped. Let everything remain in white natural colour. 2. We Should Cook Foods In Its Natural Form We can cook rice and wheat in our homes and eat it. Rice and Wheat is produced in farms. Then it is packed and transported to big warehouses, then wholesalers buy from them and supply to retail shops. But if a manufacturing company makes bread from rice and wheat, then to make bread a manufacturing company has to be set up, machines and working staffs are needed. When a company is built many other things are also needed. Then at last a plastic pack is required to pack the breads. So if we start cooking eatable things in its natural form then we do not need many companies like bread manufacturing company, tomato ketchup, noodles, fruit jam, pizza, burger, etc., the things required for the company and the plastic pack, paper box pack and glass bottles. If done like this, so many companies will not be required and hence less pollution for the world. Also we could save our money like this. If you buy a packet of bread, it would cost you more money than if you cook wheat and rice in home. Previously before industrial revolution, we didn't have technology, but our foods were rich with nutrients. Now we have technology, but technology is polluting our foods and our foods are not rich with nutrients, and because of that also we have health problems. If this is done, then many jobs would be lost. For that many peoples should do farming and they should be given loans if they do not have enough money to start farming on their own. Food, Medicines, Surgeries and Education's should be made free to the world till the world settles down with farming. After that food, medicines, surgeries and education's should be stopped free to the world. Many people should study botany subject so that they have knowledge of plants and they should do farming. Is their any another solution, that humans won't lose jobs and also pollution would decrease. Humans have to take this step certainly instead of going on polluting the earth, making wildlife extinct and also mass extinctions of humans in future. 3. Electricity Pollution We create electricity from many types of sources like coal, water, etc., but it creates pollution. If electricity created from windmill and solar energy then no pollution occurs in the creation process. But still to manufacture windmill and solar machines pollution would occur. As I previously said that if we shut down many manufacturing companies which are producing things which are not needed for humans, then the world would not require so much electricity. If less electricity required, then less pollution generated. 4. Could We Stop Drinking Cow's and Buffalo's Milk Whatever vitamins and nutrients we get from milk, if we can get it from other eatable things, then we can stop drinking cow's and buffalo's milk. As milk has to be packed in glass bottles and plastic packs and then transported to places. All of this can be stopped. For infants whose mother's have died or mother's who cannot breast feed their infants, only for them cow's and buffalo's milk should be given. We use milk in tea and coffee. Instead of milk we must use lime with tea and coffee or just plain tea and coffee. A lime should be cut into a few pieces and cooked with tea and coffee or something else can be used instead of lime. 5. How Much Should Be The World's Population Every place should have a single house. No buildings, everything ground floor. If we do this and the whole lands of our planet earth would be occupied one day with homes, farms, forests, schools, hospitals, etc., then we would come to know how much our planet earth can have maximum population. Once the population is determined, then we have to maintain that population. For example if our earth can have a population of 10 billion peoples, then when the population reaches 10 billion, then everyone should have only one child till the population reaches 9 billion peoples. As if we have only one child then the population decreases. When population is 9 billion peoples, then everyone should have 2 children's till the population reaches 10 billion peoples. After that again we should have only one child. In this way population can be maintained.

I buy most of my clothes from charity shops as they are second hand. That is reused. Climate change and pollution are things should worry about too. However, we can take action as individuals. Planting trees is one way, protecting the environment is another. There are ways we can plant trees and protect the environment for free. Here are two examples below. 🙏😘 If you care about the environment please consider switching your search engine to Ecosia? They are just like Google, but give all their profits on reforestation and afforestation projects. They also use 200% renewable energy and every search offsets approximately 1kg/2lb of Carbon Dioxide. 🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳🌳 Ecosia also protects your privacy and does not sell your data to third parties. Please also consider using thenonprofits website. It can also be found as 70 clicks to donate. All the clicks cost you nothing as they use advertising money. They plant trees, protect forests, and help many humanitarian and animal causes. 🙂😘

I see this problem in small. For example: a creek near my grandparents place was so clean when I was a small child we can use it for cooking, but slowly, slowly started to get dirtier and dirtier now we only can use to water plants we can't even give the animals to drink. I remember I went to the creek bare feet and played there but now is polluted we can't do anymore. One thing I don't understand why people throw the trash into the creek or rivers or dirty water? We poison ourselves with it, and they don't realize that.

That's actually quite sad but from what I've noticed from other people who don't care about this, they see a bunch of trash in a already dirty water or river and they just toss it there as if it was some sort of convenient trashcan they just expect someone else to show up and clean it up for payment but they do realize just how bad their actions get when multiple people constantly dump their trash where it doesn't belong because of mere convenience and not having to waste time tracking proper areas for trash disposal I quite frankly hate how people think like that but until they learn about why it's bad pollution will only keep getting worse

that's german/central European reporting style. Some US online media have adapted to it too. Sadly US mainstream media has not, there the entertainment and confusion element is still dominant. It has its roots in German enlightenment and leftist milieu. Dismanteling power structure by shedding light onto the problems and showing inaction and careless indifference by those responsible.

Time to judge people for who they are and their substance not their artificial appearances with no substance. The environment is what sustains us.

Yes, the Indian manufacturers are the main culprits choosing profit over environment but the big retail brands who source these 'cheap' products should also pay to clean up this river and implement a long term solution. This is another example of western nations sourcing cheap products, sold at huge markups to retail customers, without consideration of how their manufacture could be harmfully affecting the environment in the source country. Thank you to DW Planet A for another great documentary.

Iam from Tiruppur and i operate a dyeing factory and all of the facts are true but there are a lot of improvements being done, my factory is a zero discharge factory, 100 Percent of the effluents are treated and iam still profitable, the only reason the rivers are being polluted is because of the greed to earn more profits, the factories in Tiruppur have reduced in number because they just go to the nearby district where the rules don't apply, so the long term solution for it is stricter monitoring of the industry and implementation of zero discharge rule pan India cuz the truth to be said it's way way way worser in cities like Bangalore, ahemdabad etc etc, astonishing? Yes after implantation of rules in Tiruppur dyeing units factories started spreading pan India, Bangalore is a hotspot for factories as they don't concentrate much on the sector as it makes a really small part of its economy. Bottom line is unless factory owners become ethical and governments get stringent with the laws this is gonna continue.

When i clicked on this video, I anticipated something entirely different. Like waterpollution by washing my already bought clothes. This is a highly complex issue, i honestly haven't thought about much before. I live in Germany, I do try to be somewhat sustainable, but I do think more could be done. What people need to realise is, we're basically intoxicating ourselves. Governments are way to profit oriented - at least in Germany, and care little for any healthrisks, especially if it's in another country. The "free market" will never regulate itself concerning enviromental and healthissues, it needs to be regulated by the state. It is where jobs can be created, technology advanced, life comfort expanded and the planet can be kept healthy. The world is shrinking rapidly, we need more wakeup calls like this video.

On big picture, collective consumerism to be blamed..ever growing desire for more at cheap. If not for this river and cluster today, it's another river tomorrow. Effluent treatment elsewhere across India and globe are far less managed and brands are bothered but not bothered. With most brands low cost takes precedence over sustainable manufacturing.

Back in time when people die fabric by natural plants or bugs, there was no pollution or too few to cause a visible consequence. However, those materials are more expensive and rare than toxic chemicals. That’s how fast fashion chain affects everything. If we buy 1 set of clothing and wear til it is worn out, there would be less factories and less pollution. Even though the set of clothing might be expensive, wearing it for decades makes it much cheaper than buying 100 clothing per year.

There are some non Indian real peices of work in the comment section saying that the foreign companies are polluting because Indian's don't care. Then what is stopping these companies from setting their factories in areas in India that does have extremely strict environmental regulations, if they oh so careful of environment then why are they moving the facilities to states with less regulations? So their moral grandstanding flies out of the window the moment they are out of Europe, but somehow their moral bankruptcy is also the fault of Indians? Greed is indeed the problem. Greed of global fast fashion companies who are adamant in churning out dirt cheap clothes polluting rivers in areas which let them do that to cut cost. Facilitating that greed is the local government's own greed in relaxing as many environmental rules as they can for increasing their own revenue. As the reporter said, there is no other solution but to make environmental regulations the same pan India. Let these companies move to wherever they want. It's not like India doesn't have their own textile brands. Maybe it will be for the better.

Yes, I believe India could do well enough in making its own fashion brands (those acting responsibly towards the environment) and deliver clothes and fabrics to the world without adding a famous name while contributing to the wholescale pollution of their country It just takes a bit of government backing to kickstart the Indian brand names. Once they are on the catwalk and in the public eye, the companies can do the rest unsubsidised. Issues caused by major brand names should be more heavily publicised, let fashion gods know what they're doing (although I don't think they care, since the likes of Nike are still going strong despite their treatment of Mexico's environment years ago). I, personally, care nothing at all for designer names - I just want to know 'which company does what to the environment and its local people.'

@@debbiehenri345 There are already a lot of small sustainable clothing brands in India, but they cannot make filthy profits to scale up and go global. The point about government support is actually the crux of the issue. Unfortunately the law makers and government party are deep in their pockets. The demagogues here have actually unanimously made it into law that any foreign company could anonymously buy election bonds (equivalent of election campaign donations) and their details will only be available to the government not the public. They are feeding off each other's greed. It feels like fantasy dream to think the government will support ethical brands in such a situation

I like that you are actually showing the people working in the factories and the people directly affected by the pollution. You put a human face on the problem. It really helps bring it home to those of us that live in the west. To many of us here, we don't see India, Bangladesh, China, etc, as quite as human as we are. That's an awful, racist stereotype we have that needs to change. Putting a human face to it sends a powerful message. I'm also glad that you're focusing on the problems in manufacturing and dying of fabrics, not just garment construction. I'm a home sewist, and thought I was doing some good by avoiding sweatshops, but I see that I'm not as helpful as I thought it was. I'm not sure where to go from here, but more awareness helps.

@Charlie Zelenoff We need to understand that in the EU or USA, where the restrictions are very tight and textile industries are tightly regulated for the emissions and wastes they are producing, the cost of clothing produced here is comparatively high. So, most of these brands establish their factories in the countries like India or Bangladesh, where the cost of labour is cheap, the government regulations on emissions or waste disposal are not strict at all, which in turn results in cheap clothing which is the most common type of clothing sold in EU and USA. So, if we don't have polluted rivers in the EU or USA and India has such polluted rivers, we are partly to blame. The best way to avoid such pollution on our planet is to avoid consuming without any actual need. Remember the most sustainable clothing that you can have is the one you already own. Also when buying a new pair of clothing is actually necessary, try to find the brands which are more conscious about their impact on the environment due to their business and already trying to provide the most sustainable clothing for you (not just on paper, but in reality based on facts). Also, always try to avoid cheap/fast-fashion clothing, as they are the most unsustainable products produced solely to make a profit at any cost to the environment.

This video is really great. In my state also, there is a river just like this named Nambul River which directly falls into the only floating fresh water lake Loktak. The condition is really bad and it needs concern. There is no industry in my state but this river passes right through the city and the city dwellers polluted the water. Garbage, sewage any kind of pollutants are dumped into it. I really feel miserable seeing this polluted river. The govt doesn't impose any law or try to save it. The other rivers are also degrading.

When I lived in India, in Delhi I got so angry when saw people waste the water there, sometime they just let the tub run and all water went to waste on the ground, and I knew it some part of India and many poor people and small communities there struggling with water or clean water, and those people waste so much water, like we have all the water in the world or infinite amount of water. Even there on Delhi, some districts struggled to have clean water, people just don't think through. Not just there, here too. Please, don't waste the water, be resourceful!

A shame. We, Westerners, are clearly responsible for these atrocities. We want to buy constantly new clothing and we want to buy it cheap. This must change. Companies need to calculate the costs for protecting and cleaning the environment into their prices - also of course they need to pay fair wages to their workers. I would say, double the prices of T-Shirts etc!

How can it be westerners fault though, when nowhere on the clothing does it say "the production of this clothing caused water pollution on the other side of the planet"? It just says "made in india". Should we boycott all indian products? That would hurt india as well. The companies who made it are responsible, the government who doesn't stop them is responsible, and we shouldn't try to shift the blame on consumers, who have no idea and who are powerless to stop this.

@@Thros1 Pretty words, but what exactly should be done? Here is a line up of who has the most power to change status quo: The company who produce the clothing is most responsible, because they could, you know, not pollute. The government is next, they could make it illegal to dump waste, and change the entire industry for the better. The companies who buy the clothing could look into how it's produced and demand that production be changed or they'll stop buying. Hell, even the indian people who live in the area has more power to change the system, because they know who is doing something wrong, and who they should make demands from. What can westerners do? Tell me exactly what you think they can do, when they have a tight budget and they're standing in a shopping mall, surrounded by cheap clothing, with no information about how any of it was produced, except the label "made in *insert poor country*"?

Most important observation - that we have done this before and if we don't learn from this, we will do it again. Let's learn OK. It doesn't always have to be this way. Product sources should always be verified as being responsible. No matter the country, city or town.

I had expected India to use more natural dyes than a certain 'other' silk producing country. And what of the fabrics I've already purchased from there?

@@debbiehenri345 They are used to produce the dyes. Unfortunately many of the colors from natural sources come from animals, for example i remember there's a color that only exists in a certain type of octopus, i think it's purple or something close to it. Another color is only found in sea snails, red can be obtained from certain plants, and so on. The animals are already threatened, so the dyes are produced chemically and that in turn produces toxic waste as a by product. Basically i think this is why the dyes have these elements. But I'm not even close to being an expert, I'm sure someone else can comment with more details. PS: I might even be wrong here, my chemistry classes were a loooong time ago :D
