I’m surprised by the lack of farmlands in Bengal. At around this time, Bengal was already the largest agricultural unit in India by a mile. No idea why they don’t even have a single farmland

Another interesting thing is the Assamese debate. Rajbongshi (the northern dialect of Bengali) is a transition region into Assam but firmly more Bengali than Assamese. Aryans already lived in Assam during this point of time, and Bengalis and Assamese were a similar strain of peoples, with the Assamese getting more tibeto Burman influence through gradual migrations of people from the east. That’s why the locals speak an Aryan language, they were the ones conquered by the Ahom and Tai, not the other way.

Funny how Cairo still has more people than Dehli or any other location in India, just shows how densly packed Egypt is, if it wasn't for the desert they'd probably be the most densly populated country in the world

Golconda was not a diamond mine, rather it was a major center of diamond-cutting and a major trade hub for diamonds - in fact, when Portugal discovered new sources of diamonds in Brazil the diamonds were regarded as a lower quality than the Indian diamonds and they were only able to get decent prices for the Brazillian diamonds by turning them into Golconda diamonds by shipping them all the way from Brazil to have them cut in Golconda.

It seems like they’ve realized that they can review a lot bigger areas at one time. Maybe they anticipated needing smaller areas for some limiting factor that didn’t end up being that big of an issue

I was expecting we would see more/larger plateau provinces in India, adding a little extra geographic diversity to the subcontinent. In any case, as long as their map is true to real-world conditions, I'm happy.

India is gunna be such fun to play in, theres gunna be a lot of fun tags, and I can imagine smaller nations being quite fun seing the subcontinent burn around you can building an empire from its embers. Orissa could be quite fun for that, since they seem to be like, basically the same size as we see them in EU4 a century later. Empire building over a united tibet could be quite nice too, I've always wanted to build an empire there in EU4 but the gameplay of it isn't that interesting beyond becoming a horde and eating everyone - whereas in EU5? Sit in your mountains, and see as every major power around you is crumbling. Very much so looking forward to playing there, I feel like India is one of the most fun but underappreciated regions in EU4 - Probably owing to the fact as a region it's mission trees are sparse and they're rather old whilst it has a tendency to hugbox.

I really, really hope that converting terrains and deforestation is a part of the game, otherwise the clearance of the marshes and jungles of eastern Bengal during the Bangla Subah would be completely impossible to replicate, and would negate a huge part of the world economy for essentially the entirety of the time period. Moreover, the lack of navigable rivers I think is a big issue regarding Bengal, it is clear from one glance that the most salient feature in the geography of Bengal are the innumerable rivers that flow through it, depositing silt and minerals from the himalayas into the fertile plains of Bengal, turning it into possibly the most fertile land on the planet. They, of course, also act as sources of navigation, trade and fresh water, all of which are critical for the development of civilization. Now I wont expect them to actually implement a feature of "shifting rivers" into the game (even though that is also crucial to properly simulate the area and the demise of Gaur due to the shifting of the Padma and the dyring up of the streams of the Tista to the north, and the rise of Dhaka as one of the most important ports in the world due to it serving as the point of convergence between the Brahmaputra and Ganges (Meghna) and pouring out with the Meghna estuary into the Bay of Bengal.

North India should have very low development historically as this was the period of the devastation caused due to the Islamic invasions. Historically, from the 1100s to the 1500s, north India would be a largely rural at best semi rural area because of the Delhi Sultans. It was not until the Mughals (especially Akbar) that urbanisation of some degree returned back to northern India. The only regions in northern India one could say would have had a degree of development would be the area of Rajasthan due to the fact that it was still ruled by the native Hindu kings. Large parts of Southern India on the other hand would be much more developed than Northern India as it was not yet devastated to the extend North India was by the Islamic invasions. Somebody please get this message across to the forums.
