India Receives a Record $111 Billion in Remittances: What Does it Mean? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
In a world first, Indians living abroad have set a major record by sending $111 billion back to the country as remittances. The remittances make up around 3% of India's GDP. Indians working high skilled jobs in developed nations now make up for 36% of the remittances received. This has helped boost the total amount of what the country receives in remittances annually. An assessment by the World Bank reveals that remittances to India will continue to rise in 2024, too. Notably, no other country has ever crossed the $100 billion mark in this domain. On Vantage, Palki Sharma analyses why this is a significant milestone.

@@BallyBoy95 ...and federal taxes? Not to mention ALL kinds of everyday taxes that's attached to food services, energy, gas, etc etc etc. With roughly around 20M NRI Indians around the world (not just U.S.), let's just say half that sent money back, now this is a very high figure I'm using, they'd literally have to send about $11,000 free and clear of taxes and all living expenses back to India. How is this even possible??? And NOT every Indian has high paying jobs. The numbers are ALL bogus and laughable to begin with as how India 'grows'.

At other side we r proud of our people becoming pm of uk, vice president of usA OR CEOS OR NOW This remitensies.... But one thing jobless in our country and beg for free bees or becoming burden for country is far more worse than sending remitensies to our mother land and helping our country ( just my opinion )

Do we have data on how much India is spending on 1. Foreign holidays 2. Foreign education 3. Foreign destination marriage ?? 4. Foreign medical expenses
@maligarjunjanardan6619
@maligarjunjanardan6619 3 ай бұрын
Especially the govt. should look into people going to Europe and far east and their pervert purpose for holidays. We have over 15 eco systems in the sub continent from seashore, hills to deserts to snow covered paradise. But we cannot develop for environment reasons. Foreign education is another drain. No foreign country accepts Indian degrees of late and want to at least take 1 degree from the host country to be employed. Foreign destination marriages are another bane on the economy. If India opens up its traditional medicine even that could save.

You guys pay no attention to your epics or understand what they mean. Mahabharata: Bk 1: Adi Parva: Sambhava Parva: Section CIX *And the wheel of virtue having been set in motion by Bhishma, and the country became so contented that the subjects of other kingdoms, quitting their homes, came to dwell there and increase its population.* And yet, decades later, as soon as Indraprastha was open for business, everyone who could, left Hastinapur. It got so bad, Duryodhana had to ban the rest of the tax base from leaving. Why did the people leave? Well, a big part must have been that life was getting so bad, that it was worth the risk. A prosperous comfortable people do not usually uproot themselves to live elsewhere unless they are the minority seeking adventure or the very rich looking to protect their wealth from taxes. This high volume of remittances, reveals that India is not the place for the average person to stay and to generate wealth. And there is the risk that over time, a proportion of this diaspora or their descendants will never return to India. What has happened to India's wheel of virtue?

Citizens working in PVT companies work harder, earn more and give higher income taxes. Whereas citizens working in Govt jobs are known for their cultural issues about work, earn less and give lesser income tax. Yet Govt has pension schemes for Govt employees. Eg after paying 3 million rupees in taxes on an average every year for 35 odd years a citizen in India gets RS 2100 pension under pension scheme of EPFO that amounts to 26 dollars at current rate. There is no medical insurance after retirement like Govt employees. In comparison to India if one looses job say in Italy, his 85% of last drawn salary is assured by Govt for 2 years. And his pension is at least 1500 dollars. Govt is just taking from its hard working citizens without even thinking about their welfare. Another example; after retirement EPFO officers harasses and demands huge cuts to settle the PF final settlement or they keep rejecting the claim harassing the honest income tax paying citizens. One may write to Labour ministry, PMO, EPFO on social media for help, but no one even acknowledges. This is the ground reality of honest citizens of India.
