The first car that we had owned. It was a used one brought in 1999. Was a taxi before and thoroughly abused but it still ran. Still remember the night when my father brought it. It did not even have headlights. Used it only for church rides. Had to sell it to fund my education during hard times. Still remember the registration number. Wish we went for more rides in it.

While taking classes at N.Y.U. in international business including on how to do business in India I remember researching this unique car. I wrote a lengthy and detailed email to Hindustan Motors that would make a great city car and that it has a very cool retro look and that if they updated it a bit it might make a splash in the US market. I could see milenials in driving them around NYC. Well, I never heard back. Oh, well, too bad. I think there would be a market for it in the U.S. - something different something unique

Yes, It was the Morris Oxford that was first assembled and sold in India as Hindustan 10. Then they bought the rights to make it here and then renamed it as the Hindustan Motors Ambassador. Although a few changes have been made, jut a few, the car had remained the same. Then the government removed restrictions on competition and foreign investment and by the time the makers of the ambassador realised it that people were moving on to better and modern cars, they initiated change. But still it was too little too late. The Government was having to bail them out for some years now. Well the company's rotten culture and politics in India meant that things went from bad to worse. Anyway, the buyers went away long ago, then the state sometime ago and now the "management" has decided to pull the plug on it. This car should have had a respectable ending to production. It didn't.
