A country does not need primary resources for large exports. Bangladesh exports textiles although it does not grow cotton. Singapore exports petroleum although it does not have oil.

@@udaykumariitr3253 Personally, I think this is a joke. 50% of the share is Apparel which is anyways a dying sector. Bangladesh has better production lines than India in that sector. India is now just producing bad quality stuff at higher prices. Heck, you can see Bangladesh and Vietnam produced stuff even in India because they are that cheap and still have quality. India will have to move up the chain like China and produce winter jackets etc. Else, there is no hope for that sector.

@@DeepakKumar-uj6br While you are partly correct about the LDC thing, the textile sector was struggling to survive even when India had LDC status. An FTA, in my opinion will not make the sector alive. Bangladesh follows China style mass production while India has small scale sub contracting style. Not to mention, traditional areas like Mumbai or Southern India are now expensive when it comes to labour. Bihar for example is cheaper than Bangladesh, but there is no proper electricity nor rule of law. My father worked in an apparel factory and also for a short time owned one. The company he worked at had designing in Mumbai but production moved from Mumbai to Bangladesh instead of somewhere in Bihar. And anything that can be done in Bihar, gets done in Bhiwandi (a region close to Mumbai with high electricity theft and powercuts). Regions like Tiruppur from Tamil Nadu will get a boost from FTA. They serve a niche market like undergarments. But in general, apparel in India is a dying market. Just to put into perspective, our wages for tailors are higher than in Romania. And Romania is part of the EU.

Hurray! Magically indian manufacturing is doing well all of a sudden after 75 years. Such thankless media is the curse of India and worst motivator for govt who for the first time in 75 years is working like those in Southeast Asia. For 75 years Indian governments lead by congress had only excuses when ever India’s economy was compared with Singapore, Taiwan or South Korea. Who gained independence 10-20 years after India. Now, from this NDA govt, we don’t hear excuses but we hear aggressive targets and we see results. @@uaeindi You are so obsessively focused on GDP growth numbers. There are stupid ways to increase GDP growth. UPA gave bad loans and facilitates bad credit which showed up later on. China has also done some things which give good GDP in short run but bad in long term. Long term sustainable growth is what we should be focusing on. Look at infrastructure, look at renewables, look at the tarrifs and PLI trying to move entire supply chains and ecosystems to India. I'd rather choose 5 years of 6% sustainable growth over 9% temporary growth, but long term setbacks.

Guest had discussed the subject with great clarity and in simple easily understandable terms ; India should invest in Defense Equipments heavily based on indigenous R & D and testing with its own contemporary innovation ; Since defense systems include multiple disciplines such as electronics , chemicals , communications , heavy equipments and infrastructure etc the same innovation learnings can be applied for other exports and its expansion ( horizontal deployment on other industries ); While it will create jobs and act as good import substitutes , will also protect the country from skirmishes at the border ; The key words ambition , agility , Infra and skills as mentioned by Rajesh for Defense sector will stand us in good stead ; Any pressure group which is trying to procastinate the actions has to be put behind the bars in the name of national security ; The pressue groups handling is a real challenge in india ;

Surprised to find manufacturing sector contributing only 15% to GDP of India while in China its over 40%. No wonder overall employment rate in India is only 43% compared to 63% in China. Although not comparable, in neighbouring country like Bangladesh and Pakistan it is 53% and 48% respectively, according to recent World Bank Report.

I live in Israel and as far as I can recall the first Made in India item I have ever seen in the marketplace and later purchased was a pair of Work Pants. I don't see many Indian produced things available in Israel although I must admit I am not a consumer addict. Perhaps certain elements of goods are manufactured elsewhere using Indian sourced raw materials but I don't see any effort tp promote Made in India. This is surprising as the two countries are on very friendly terms, China to both countries is a major concern, thousands of Indians work and study in Israel and pre-Corona India was a favorite tourist spot for Israelis.

Hey Danny, I am from India itself and a huge fan of Israel, Coming to the products imported by Israel are majorly Gems, Jewelry or Non-Basmati Rice. I have seen that Israelis mostly import cars from Germany or other European countries. Electronics in India is majorly assembly based, basically, companies like Apple or Samsung (and there are more) assemble their products in India with the help of raw materials coming from out, it's true we are moving towards Manufacturing site as well, specifically, we are targetting the semiconductor industry, there are many I Phones assembled in India, you or your colleague might have already used without realizing In terms of Military or Defense, Israel is way ahead of India, we currently have only a few countries with whom we have been successful in exporting our Military Defense In terms of Non Merchandise Goods or Software exports, we are doing very well with UAE or Saudi, Israel is already high tech so that sector is again ruled off Israel relations have grown with India rapidly in recent years since Modi has come to power, so we can expect more Trade in the future.

Yes a lot of Countries are hoping that India can get its act together and replace China as THE Manufacturer to the World and as quickly as possible before China is in a position where there is no chance of catching up to her. It all depends on consumers actively looking for products made elsewhere as long as prices are somewhat similar and the supply and quality are there. I hope India and Israel do develop much stronger ties in many different spheres as both sides have a lot in common [emphasis on Education, willing to take risks and thinking outside the box] and both sides and the World will benefit greatly.

For a simple example, india is right now going gaga over the growth of their smartphone output and export numbers but if we dig deeper the large percentage of the numbers were contributed by Chinese brands plus Samsung and Apple. Indian brands are far and far smaller in number of contribution. 😀 What you can learn from this? Here China even indirectly "controlling" india smartphone manufacturing industry

Central govt.of India is doing pretty well however various state govt. are interpreting those policy in their own way.State govt focus is mainly on regaining the power seat and the majority of voters see the vested interest like caste and community. Neelkanth has placed very strong points like upskilling the youth,product selection based on demographic factors.I would suggest a common industrial policy across the nation,rather taking the subject to federal govt list from state list. That will make the entire nation grow irrespective of the ruling party short term policy in any state. Today we need to produce more skilled workforce to attract global manufacturing giants.

Indian-Govt must adopt a 3-language policy for Education with:- (1) ENGLISH as the medium of education & compulsory literature subject from 1st to 12th Std. (2) Regional-Language as a compulsory lit. subject from 1st to 12th Std (3) 3rd Language as a Compulsory Lit. subject from 6th to 10th Std. This will allow Govt to set a certain Std. for Quality & Access of education for the upcoming Generations. India must adopt 3-levels for Govt Schools with separate infrastructure, administration & teachers for:- (1) Elementary Schools => 1st to 5th Std. (2) Middle-Schools => 6th to 8th Std (3) High-School => 9th to 12th Std & Trade Schools Indian-Govt must conduct Board-Exams at these level to check the quality of Education:- (a) 5th Std. (b) 8th Std. (c) 10th Std. (d) 12th Std. The difficulty for these exams must increase with with increase from 5th to 12th Std. In Elementary-Schools, Indian-Govt must promote these activities:- (1) Yoga (2) Athletics (3) Calisthenics (4) Performing Arts => Classical Music, Regional dance forms like Kathak, Kathakali etc (5) Fine-Arts => Drawing, Painting, Sketching etc In the Middle & High-Schools, Govt must provide these activities:- (1) Martial-Arts => Wrestling/Judo/Boxing/ Taekwondo (2) Swimming (3) Advance level Maths, Science, Economic & Language courses (4) Trade/Vocational-Skills. In Universities & Colleges, it must be made to Learn at least one Foreign Language, such as:- (1) French (2) German (3) Japanese (4) Spanish (5) Italian (6) Finnish (7) Russian (8) Japanese (9) Korean (10) Arabic (11) Mandarin/Chinese (12) Swedish (13) Austrian (14) Norwegian (15) Danish The major focus must on German, French, Spanish, Italian, Finnish & Norwegian. This will allow easier Migration to European Nations that will eventually boost:- (1) Remittances (2) Indian influence in these Nations

China industrial labour is not cheap. They get paid 9 times higher than indian industrial labor in nominal terms. China is moving away from labor intensive industries as it is no longer competitive. It's entering a different phase of development as compared to India.

China is moving into high tech manufacturing like semiconductor chipsets, 5G, bullet trains, aircraft manufacturing, defence, space technology etc. These kind of jobs pay higher wages and China can compete with the Western nations. @@kaustubhraizada That’s too broad a generalization. Not all manufacturing is the same. Not are all service jobs skilled. A machinist working at a Boeing plant is far more skilled than a server at a restaurant.

US interest rates are going up because of inflation and they will keep going up. Money will move from stocks to US government bonds as it is safer. So not an India specific phenomenon. It's more because of the tightening of liquidity.

Push hard to becoming the manufacturing hub. All state centre govt. And private sectors should push value added in semi conductor electronics medical equipment s chemicals and military hardware textile. Solve the sector wise problems. Promote manufacturing and exports.encourage e vehicles and cut down our forex.

In a sector like Textiles & garments, the government needs to tweak a little bit. Garments export is dwindling & has to compete globally with strong garments exporters. Garments manufacture is essentially a value addition exercise, as it needs (raw) cloth to be imported. India being one of the largest in cloth manufacture (& exporter) needs to put additional tax on export of it to discourage (raw) cloth export, to retain value addition here and India can turn that into garments, for export.

India 🇮🇳 can manufacturer better then China 🇨🇳 with " quality ", ethics and skill workers. We can expert less price products from 🇮🇳. several company's like Dell IBM EY tayota Bosh ...ect (around 150000 companys) are operational in India with out any problem and skilled labor. Even Government promoting new companies with incentives and some times free land allocation. In India for rapid transport 5 DFC are under construction 27 8 line national Hiways are adding in 2022.. Thanks to government🙂🙏

A government success depends upon exports of manufacturing.concentrate on manufacturing. A hard push is required. Favorite exports of manufacturing. Become the factory of the world. Give highest priority to electronics defence equipments machinery toys
