I lived and studied and worked in Europe and US. A developed country ensures the well being of the lowest denominator and the law and order one can vouch by. Quality of life and access to resources. India needs Administrative reforms more than economic reforms. We are still administered by the same MAI BAPP bureaucracy that Britishers used to make us a pauper state from the second-largest economy we were during the Aurangzeb era. A structural change is required in our bureaucracy, which has in its DNA to keep individuals from earning more money than they do. We should send all our IAS officers to China to learn how they have solved all the problems we face today. There is no need to reinvent the Wheel. Today, Communist China does Capitalism better than India does.

100% agree with you, brother. I have worked in manufacturing and the Indian bureaucracy is lazy, corrupt and entitled. For every single process, you have to pay an “agent” who later on distributes the cash to govt employees to get the work done. Whenever anyone asks me what is keeping India back, I say “Socialist Sarkaari Babus” not the politicians (they second worse to babus). In fact, today the horde we see for govt jobs is because of corruption. Youth today are aware of the amount of money they can make “under the table” in govt jobs can never be matched by private jobs or even in SME scale entrepreneurship.

Most enterprises in China are still State owned. The Chinese State is thus able to combat inflation via commmands and price clamp downs that an open economy like India cannot execute. The Chinese State has however embraced the world market which is ruled by private capital, for now - capitalism is a weakening force nowadays, with the 1st world where it is concentrated on the brink of recession. Moreover we should have world class hospitals, schools, colleges, Roads,public transportation etc. People & media must develop courage to ask questions our parliamentarians about our betterment.

Montek is right. After retiring I’ve realised that as a common citizen I mostly interact with state govt. and, it’s here that constraints exist and need to be removed. Centre has a role too in limited areas. However, Centre’s major task should be push and incentivise states to take necessary governance reforms to remove roadblocks.

Let us not forget that he is an accomplished economist and held barious positions in government at our crucial period of history. We may or may not sgree with his views, but attacking him is. Certainly not desirable. I think subsidies leave very little money in yhe hands of the government for creating assets and building infrastructure. It is common knowledge that many cases subsidies are availed by undeserving people. A better idea is to link the susidies with construction activities such as "subsidies for work" i e those working in infra projects should be given sybsidies and financial sid instead of freebies.

There is a difference between DBT(direct benefit transfer) and freebies. DBT is aimed at a certain segment of the society which is below a certain threshold of income and in need of immediate financial support. It has a specified time duration. Freebies don't have any such criteria and time duration Unfortunately, political class have weaponised freebies to win electoral support. Voters have also accepted this trend it because of the poor record of the administration and public representatives on governance and fixing social infrastructure. They have lost trust and confidence in the capacity building ability of the establishment. Hence, they prioritised personalised delivery of public goods and services. But it's bad for fiscal health and erodes the culture of accountability and democracy.

Indians should remember one thing. Yes certain things from Singapore, China, Japan, Korea etc can be inspirational but it can add value to our goals only upto 50%, for the remaining 50% we have to invent our own wheel.. India is the most complex country in the world. don’t be in the delusion of one particular model. Even Lee kuan you said when asked the question that of India is given to him would he turn it into Singapore, his answer was it impossible to govern India by one single person, China is easy to govern, for India multiple hands, ideas, executions should come together.. Indians should keep this in mind and not get into the trap of following a certain model.. what worked for Singapore, what worked for China may not work effectively for India. For example, China being a communist, its government has lot of financial levers to jump start the things. This is not possible for India.. Hope people be optimistic, and become more organised in everything in the thought process to make right decisions.. Whatever it is, India has to survive..

Freebis are political compulsion arisen out of economic failure.Basic reason for economic failure is people employed in both public and private sector are not serious about their assignment rather not aware of the same.They work only for their salary.In fact most of these people do not take pride in their assignment, many are proud of their position.Economic policies are not always bad.

Socio economic justice, better police judicial reforms r important. My family member was killed 10 yrs back but still jistice is not provided as every hearing is like 6 months gap. How can ppl work when social justice would not be provided. We as a family r not able to do any productive work unless justice is provided to us. Police civil servants r also very cruel and corrupt, rather than helping victims they r more into harrasment so that we can bribe them to escape all the hassle. Its disgusting, i jv already left India fory own mental peace.

I have visited Saltlake of Rajasthan, where cow is having only bones not any muscles, similar to people there. People have to travel in Jeeps for 50 kms, no public transport and very poor roads and not even able change third gear in my car! Visit all villages in India, where 60% population lives , then talk your economic policies. I was with the Central Govt, decade, and seen the north Indian villages in almost all states. In South we have better politicians who work for people and their departments of course no body is clean, but in North the public money is lootted by politicians with the help people like you and do nothing people and keep them low cost labour for ever in villages. Society should develop holistic, rather than only a few enjoying Govt benefits and make the others poor and poorer.

BS. None of those places /issues are relevant. Growth is taking place elsewhere. Manipur is too small and localised. Kashmir never did contribute anything anyways. Money was poured in there and was a total waste but it's again not big enough. Khalistani drug +ISI issues are also nothing big because there is no local support. What really holds us back is muslims and their inability to see beyond their religion and to live in a proper democracy. Partition should have been completed. Now the battle will be left for another day
