Yes these are Serious Considerations to apply and engineer as Wildlife, Stock and People all need access to Potable Water and serious commitments to Infrastructure and Form could devise Appropriate Technological Standards to augment Emergency Storage Facilities or Collectors to use later when local conditions may be water deprived or in drought to save impacts on Freshwater Resources in those Areas as needed. Monsoon or wet season Storage could provide year round Potable Water Availability for Best Use Purposes of Community.

I think one of the keys to the widespread participation in this project is that it was started by Aamir Khan, who is a household name in India, and that there were financial backers for the prize money. I would like to add a note, if you don't mind, these competitions has percolated much talked about environmental issues to those villagers who were less fortunate to attend any schools. They are now aware and awakened. And making right decisions for themselves and community. It has also resolved old political feuds and brought people together to fight drought. I'm so glad more people are noticing the amazing work done by the Paani Foundation. I held a presentation at my university in Austria last year about their methods to manage the watertable, just based on the english content they share on youtube and their website. They work with such intelligence and neverending vigor. It's really inspiring, and with the effects of climate change starting to severely affect our rainfall here in Europe too, the methods they are developing will sooner or later become interesting even to European countries, where water is currently still actively drained off the land because of outdated 19th-century ideas of land development.

You go slightly to the west of Satara and you'll reach the Sahyadri mountains which receive 2000-5000 mm rain per year. These mountains run along the entire western coast of Maharashtra and continue until Kerala. Very different pictures on both sides of the mountain. To its west, you can grow rice (very water hungry crop) on just rainfall and no separate irrigation. To the east it is mostly semi-arid and arid.

We travelled from Satara West over the mountains to Ganpatipol near Ratnagiri, so I went over the terrain that you are talking about. My favorite part are the Mango forests on the western slopes!

I'll also like to thank business houses like Reliance, who supported this initiative by providing required machinery. Also to the government of Maharashtra for not creating any red tape barriers. As people participated by providing their own labour, it's most likely they'll take good care of the infrastructure built.

India bands together and solves the problem of their arid regions becoming worse. In America, everybody just cries that its because of climate change and throws their arms up in the air. I wish some of these people crying about climate change and calling for a carbon tax had the motivation and ambition to make the situation better like these guys. I would volunteer for a project like this in the Mojave desert-- I live here. Something like this could help end the 'megadrought' taking place here.

I am from Kerala where every inch of land is cultivated. I am amazed to see uncultivated land in this video. If I owned those lands, I would plant cashew nuts, which does not need much water, along with jack fruit trees and mango trees. In the old days we had a pond in every farmer's house. We never had water shortages.

Most of the land in kerala was mountain and terrain and low lying areas were below sea level!! Just middle portion of the land is cultivable in kerala! Eventhough have more rainfall and water source depends on neighbor state like karnataka! For food resource..

Dear Vikram Bhaai, pls get in touch with Paani Foundation and speak to them about your brilliant ideas. I think if they grow Kaaju and Kathal not only it will earn them lots of money but also the Cashew Nut and Jackfruit plant will hold the soil and increase the moisture in the land. This information that Kaaju plant does not need much water is sensational because demand for Kaaju is immense. In every dish to make it tastier Kaaju is used. The put it in milk shakes & faaluda, in Pulaav, they use its paste to make the gravy for the vegetable dishes. I think more farmers should grow this. Two benefits : their income will be much more than if they would have grown paddy(rice) or wheat. Secondly if Kaaju is grown at a massive level its price will come down and it will become a more affordable dry fruit.

From what I've seen on KZbin, India has shown their love and compassion and the well being of this planet, humanity and animal welfare than any other country I've seen. I'm not saying other countries aren't contributing because I know others are. What India is doing to combat the plastic waste situation is remarkable! Let alone this awesome water project. All countries can learn a lot from India. India may have a lot of poverty, which they are combating, but they are rich with compassion and empathy and love from their hearts. Stay strong India! Humans have dug up the older trees and hedges and caused the droughts. Now at last people are realising the sense of them and becoming more conscious of the need to right the wrongs. Wonderful to see the villagers creating the revival of their basic water supplies = water to drink for humans, animals and the land = crop production for food for humans and animals = self-sufficiency, prosperity and better health.

This is really a great initiative, and it’s great that it was brought to life by an Indian celebrity, hopefully it’ll inspire more Indian celebrities to get involved in similar projects. In the video you mention they practice rotational grazing, have they been exposed to the work of Dr Allan Savory who developed a system of holistic management which include a continuous adaptive grazing technique. If they haven’t, I would strongly urge you to look at the work of the Savory Institute. Keep up the great work with your videos, we need more example of communities working collaboratively to build solutions to their joint problems.
