Yes it will increase their awareness about the tough education policy and they would eventually put more efforts to pass the exams. These days half of the students literally take things for granted because anyhow they will be pushed and promoted to the next class even after failing....let this bring good change among the students and the management.

@knuckleheadninja2307 , learning 4 languages is not necessary. I have studied 2 languages till tenth amd third language sanskrit in 9th which i barely passed by copying. Third language had no use in my life. If by ur logic someone else will come and say six languages is essential. Can we then force to learn.6 languages. In most of the developed countries only one language is taught. Other languages are taught as optional. I am succesful as per my expectation without learning 3rd language. I never used 3rd language in my life. Learning more than 2 languages should be optional not compulsion. If someone has interest to learn more than 2 languages then let them learn. Dont force others to learn.

Have you ever encountered with an eighth class student not able to solve a division, not able to read a line of English without stuttering? I have, and trust me, you feel pity for them. I used to tutor students of class 5 to class 12th during my bachelors degree, guess what; even though govt had reduced syllabus, had difficulty in covering the topics; few of them used to say "the school won't fail them, even they don't study" and the thing I observed in class 10 student is that they can't even solve the basic mathematical problems of substraction and division; I am just 23M but still when I check the syllabus that we had and the syllabus they are having now, I fail to recognize why they are struggling to study. If we look the students now a days, they are carrying lots and lots of books i their bag each and nd everyday, but don't have aptitude in their head. They can only solve the problems, that they have practiced in school, also only if all the numbers matches the same.

1 teacher for 60 students is definitely a huge disaster. But a bigger disaster is 1 teacher for 30 students or less and still churning out failures. Why? Because teachers have many months of salary due to them and so they are not interested/invested to teach or less interested to stay. Teachers leave schools at an alarming rate per year, that students of 10th grade who have to show up for their public exam next year, remain confused as to the syllabus covered and where they have to pick up from. And this issue starts from 7th grade!! I am talking about CBSE schools in UAE. The quality of education is not just in the students hands or the schemes by the government. It is with everyone. And in the group of everyone, al lot is in the hands of the adults starting from the governments, boards, teachers and parents.

I studied in a small public school till class 5th and they only had around 25-40 children per class and teachers paid far more attention to each child and sometimes even taught multiple subjects. Even the Principal Mam used to teach different subjects, this made the Principal more approachable and respectful. I now think that it probably wasn't bad because the teachers gave more attention to every student, unlike the 60+ students classrooms in my prestigious secondary school

If the base is weak, they will not be able to cope with higher studies. The idea that repeating a year in school-often called "grade retention"-might have a positive effect on a child is debated within the scientific community. While some may believe it helps a child catch up academically, the evidence from research is mixed, with many studies showing more negative or neutral effects than positive ones. Key Findings from Research: Short-Term Academic Improvement: Some studies suggest that, in the short term, students who repeat a grade might show slight academic improvements immediately after the retention. This could be due to more time spent on the same material, and the opportunity to master it. Long-Term Negative Effects: Research generally points to long-term negative effects associated with grade retention. These include: Lower self-esteem: Repeating a grade can cause emotional and social challenges. Students may feel stigmatized or less competent, leading to lower self-confidence. Increased dropout rates: Retained students are statistically more likely to drop out of school, particularly if retention is repeated or if they face challenges in later academic years. Worsened social outcomes: Being older than peers can result in social isolation, bullying, or a sense of being disconnected from classmates. Ineffective for Academic Growth in the Long Run: While some research indicates short-term academic gains, evidence suggests that these gains often fade over time. After a few years, retained students often catch up to their peers or may even fall behind again. Better Alternatives: Many experts argue that interventions such as additional tutoring, smaller class sizes, and individualized learning strategies are more effective than retention. These approaches address the child's specific academic needs without the social and emotional drawbacks of repeating a year.

Then the failure becomes harder to deal with since they don't know even basics and cannot improve themselves in short period.

Yes, they should be failed. Also, students who study in English language schools (even vernacular schools which have English as a subject) and yet repeatedly write things like "he have the keys", "they didn't done anything", "suuuper speech", "they knows the answers" should have marks deducted even if their answers are correct in terms of getting the right answer in maths etc. Without that, you have an epidemic of poor writing everywhere from court notices, customer care chats and social media to hospital and bank websites in the workforce in India. The next generations should have much more fluency in English writing than the previous ones. Part of the issue is also hiring the right people for the job of English teaching as opposed to simply hiring people because they have a degree.

This policy is the today’s requirement, I am a teacher and I am facing students of class IX having no basic knowledge of anything(leave Maths and Hindi reading) they don’t know how to write their name correctly in Hindi or in English. The problem, specially in the government schools is that on an average only 20% student arrive in the school and teachers make attendance of 90% student, the attendance is too low due to no detention in any class and this is a vicious cycle. The students who are appearing daily in the school discourage from this behaviour and stop coming to the school too. If you look the data of government school, in Xth board exam almost 20% students are failing, but not a single student is getting failed in class X pre-board. Think how it is possible and who is responsible for this. I can’t even talk about the situation of class XI & XII.

If they fail then the school needs to take another exam for which only few teachers agree from heart else no one want a re-exam till there is any incentive involve in failing the student. Take the example in class 9th and 10th pre board, in bihar board there is no law restrict the teachers to fail them but if you see your school data there is a chance that no student fails the exam.

Our current exam system is like holding a competition among a monkey, elephant, fish, eagle, snake, deer, and lion, where the task is to climb a tree to pass. It’s absurd and meaningless-pass or fail it makes no sense. Exam shows only your memorizing capacity. Scrapping the exam system would make more sense. People often ask, “How will we know if students understand the concepts?” A good teacher already knows which students excel in what areas and where they struggle. Schools should focus on teaching basic skills up to the 8th grade. After that, they should guide parents by identifying the fields where their child shows potential, allowing them to plan their child’s future accordingly.

It's really easy to remember it though. Just pay attention since nagari script is very systematic in arrangement. I was abroad for almost a year when my son was 5. When I came back he was admitted in first standard but didn't remember any Hindi alphabet since his kindergarten was abroad. My mother taught him Hindi writing for like three days- around an hour per day. Then school started and he was writing Hindi sentences in school. His writing sucked because of lack of practice. His teachers complained for a long time. Then one of them told me it was too late for him to work on good writing. It would be better to make him focus on clear writing, instead. But other than that I was rather impressed that he still could write in Hindi. His English writing was not much better either- in Canada they only taught print letters to kids in kindergarten. Indian school standard is much higher than there, at this stage. My son had learnt cursive letters in India before there, but his school didn't allow him to use it. So Canada ruined his English writing too. Back here his writing became a mix or print and cursive.

As someone who has gotten a chance to work in delhi government schools, I can say with confidence that it was a much needed step indeed, the policy had brought children with an ease based convenient attitude of not studying as they would get passed anyways. Biggest drawback laid in students becoming disinterested in studies and teachers carrying a casual attitude of not teaching properly too. The quality of education had stooped to such a low that an 8th class student didn’t even know basic mathematical operations. However the sad part is whether the present delhi govt would comply to this new change or not or prefer to maintain the status quo

The question itself is wrong. We should ask why our education system is not able to educate students? Tests were supposed to check if one learned something or not. If one student fails then that means there is a problem in the student. But if we are covering up the failure of the whole class then the system itself is at fault. Education should not be privatised but it is. As one smart guy said there are two things missing in our education system. Education and system.

Students are fed in their mind that one will have to spend lot of times with their book in order to get good marks which is not the case and that results in boredom, hating study and some might go ahead by copying.

@WonderfulMittens absolutely every person who is studying hasn't been taught how to study. The situation is similar to one who is searching for god and no one knows how to find. This is the situation where beleif kicks in and not the knowledge because the knowledge is very rare most of them won't share
