Lifestyle diseases are increasing at a rapid rate in India. Part of this could be attributed to the fast-changing food habits with fast foods and junk foods. India is clearly experiencing a dietary shift increasingly consuming more processed foods, more ultra-processed foods. Most packaged foods as well as fast foods. And these are all linked to the double burden. We all know ultra-processed food which we know as junk foods are more of factory products and less of food they are far from contributing to a balanced diet.Front-of-pack labeling on the other hand has come across as a more consumer-friendly version. It is easily noticeable at the front of the pack. It is known to be better understood. It is known to make a quick and informed choices by the consumer. And can help encourage healthier eating habits in the long term.

The thing is, if individuals have to do all the hard work when it comes to their diet, focusing on what to buy and then how to cook it, then they become unproductive in terms of what humans can do. Food security is something we still haven't figured out as a society. We're still dependent on a certain someone in the family (traditionally, women) to make sure we fill our bellies daily. And to escape that,we turn towards processed food that is controlled by huge, capitalist corporations that dont give a shit about humanity at large. And here is where we need a societal breakthrough. This comment might be out of topic but i feel is still relevant here.

People are clever enough to tell what is and is not junk food, and it is a lie that people are not in control of what they eat. They can still cook their own food or eat fewer fatty and sugary snacks. The people are not children. Whilst useful, the labels and testing of the food will just add unnecessary costs. Imposing those costs on people who already eat healthily because others don't look after their own health is unjust in my opinion. Coming from someone who lives in a country with these labels, if a person wants to eat a chocolate bar or gulab jambu, no amount of labels will stop them. Instead of imposing labels, I suggest educating people about the health impacts, and letting them choose for themselves.

I don't see the govt giving a shit about our health. "Govt should not be in the business of business" thats our PM's new tagline and regulations like this are the opposite of that.

You say that like people don't have a clue what they are eating and they need the government to look after them like helpless toddlers. People know what junk food is; it is up to them to give a shot about their own health.

The other main reason is no physical activity we are much got dependent on bikes like Americans addicted to cars and their is no walking and there are no parks and open spaces in any city and selection of junk is increasing and many parents don't know about nutrition they r giving children a lot of junk chips and drinks ,which parents dreamed at their childhood
