At 12:54 if you notice carefully the land is about 2 meters below the water level. This place Kuttanad is the only place in the world where paddy is cultivated below sea level. Holland also have land below sea level. In kuttanad the large earthen bunds separate the back water from the land, Water is constantly pumped out to avoid flooding. this was so even before 100 years when manual pumps known as chakram made of wood (it is wooden wheel with planks to swipe and paddle the water out
