Had Sachin Tendulkar opened the ODI match vs New Zealand (played in year 1994) instead of Ajay Jadeja then India would have won the match instead of loosing it.Jaddu faced 92 balls to reach a half century before being dismissed at 55 runs which was a very slow knock by ODI standards.Imagine if Sachin faced 92 balls he would have easily scored a century.

Those days, conditions remained challenging for sides chasing. But I do agree with your view that had Sachin opened, India could have won this game and many other such chases in the 1990s.

​​@@kishorej288 In fact Jaddu bhai started to fix matches after he became the Vice Captain of Indian cricket team just a year b4 1999 ODI World Cup.Ajay Jadeja was inefficient as an opening batsman since he wasted too many balls.

Yes but in same series in next match in Auckland in 2nd odi sachin tendulkar opened with jadaja. He replaced Siddhu due to siddhu personal reasons when siddhu returned to India in middle of the series. Sachin scored 82 runs in 49 balls in Auckland 2nd odi. This was Sachin Tendulkar ist opening in one day international. In that series Sachin scored 1st odi15(21), 2nd odi - 82 (49), 3rd odi - 63 (41) and 4th odi 40 (26) - total 200 runs in 4 matches and all the strike rates more than 100.

only best thing about the India was the jersey and i loved it. Hope Sachin batted along with Sidhu.. Sidhu has done lot for the Indian Cricket team. Jadeja was just fuzzy player with no footwork and no proper stance...

This was an Indian team of uncles binging on samosas and pulao before a game. Very little agility on field, zero game plan. Each played to their own goal of scoring maximum runs safely. Glad how today’s India plays a very different brand of game altogether! Fitness first!

sala india was always a very slow starter.. when you know you have almost 5.5 run rate to chase and you know you guys are not a good chaser , why cant you maintain the run rate, at one point there one 1 out but i was sure , this team can never accelerate the run rate and same ting happened. Jadeja 55 out of 90 plus deliveries.
