I stay in the US & I speak in Indian accent but when a native speaker does not understand I switch to American accent. Learning an accent is not bad. Agar aap dhyan do toh India ke state languages mean bhi 'accent' hote hain. Gaon mein jis tarah baat ki jaati hain shehero mein thoda alag style mein bola jata hain. While I understand your point, I also feel like accent matters a lot in certain aspects, for example if you’re an artist and you wanna sing an English song, you would want to sound the way the song! For example, how would we feel if someone sang a Hindi song with English accent? We definitely wouldn’t be offended but at the same time wouldn’t it sound much better with the proper Hindi accent? Also, I feel like we Bangladeshis and Indians have the plus point that our accent is completely understandable unlike many other nationalities. So for them, it becomes a must to acquire a proper accent. Therefore I believe it’s not too harmful to adopt a different accent just because you are proud of your accent, right? :D

A small instance of my life in which I knew the uniqueness of Indian English accent. It was 2012, when I participated in a tour program arranged by my school to Mysore, Ooty and Banglore, for 9 days. I was in 9th std and the trip consisted of 8th and 9th students. When we visited the Mysore palace at night, which is an amazing spectacle (at night), me and my friends saw a female middle aged American foreigner. She was basically a tourist and came there to visit the palace. One of my friend, because he was curious, went up to that lady and just asked casual questions. In that conversation, he jokingly said that he had an Indian accent. At that time, the lady said that the Indian accent is the most understandable English accent in the world because we speak each word distinctively which makes it more clear

I’m living in USA for 22 years. Worked in many big companies, never changed my accent. When I talk over phone, people praises my accent. Once a renowned writer wrote that accent is like spices and chilies in your food. If the food is tasty and healthy, you do not need to add lot of spices to make it palatable.
