In 4th Gen the focus was on maneuverability. For 5th Gen the focus was on Stealth The much hyped 6th gen Aircraft according to my understanding would come with features like: 1) Semi Autonomous operational capabilities like acquiring target and firing right AAM missile, release of flares etc. 2)Also a feature of being remotely operated which may not be standard though. 3)The must feature would be the incorporation of Loyal Wingman and integration of network and data transfer with surface and water defence platforms. 4) Obviously more stealthy design decreasing the radar cross section when compared with 5th gen fighters which are operational. 5) Integration of AI and unmanned systems etc. 6) Unmanned operational capabilities but for very advanced 6th Gen fighters which would take time to operationalise. So my analysis says that AMCA will be a 5.5 gen fighter right from its roll out time with features like: 1)Semi Autonomous operational capabilities like automatic target acquisition by radar, lesser pilot efforts for basic flight, regular sorties etc. 2) Auto Landing and Take off just like most of 4-5th gen fighters and commercial aircrafts have. 3) Supercruise ability without afterburners will take time due to the engine which would be onboard. 4) Integration with network centric warfare and data transfer capabilities. 5) Integration with loyal wingman HAL CATS and other platforms which are in parallel development. 6) Integration of the info provided with other manned, unmanned and control centres. 7) Advanced combat weapon package on offer which includes BVRAAMs based on SFDR technology. 8) less radar cross section obviously. 9) AI capabilities Iam not sure of this but can be achieved with software advancements and I believe in Software R&D talent of India it won't be a very tough nut to crack. So my analysis says AMCA won't be as obsolete as some people claim when its rollout would be done in the 2030s because of the parallel other advancements like Loyal Wingman program, network centric warfare capabilities, advanced radar system, Hypersonic missile program, SFDR based long range BVRAAMs with high No Escape Zone, Standoff Distance Anti-airfield weapons like SAAW and other glide bombs which are paralelly going on. Open for opinions to have a fruitful discussion on.
