India has recently placed a repeat order for 73,000 SiG Sauer 716 assault rifles from the US as part of its emergency procurement, following the purchase of 72,400 such rifles in 2019. These 7.62X51mm caliber rifles, with an effective range of 500 meters, are intended for use by infantry battalions along the borders with China and Pakistan. The decision to procure more rifles, valued at Rs 837 crore, was driven by their performance and operational necessity. In addition, the Indian Army has also received the first batch of domestically assembled AK-203 rifles, part of a broader modernization effort.

Lol when indian companies can provide the same ... It's anguishing... We can have lunar mission ,build aircraft carriers but cant or unwilling to even provide home grown assault rifles to our troops .. ..there is nothing to be proud of this ... Damn it

500m range without scope u see nothing at this distance most engagement are happened at 200-300m its battle rifle u need 2x-4x scope on it to engage Chinese in ladakh because it mostly use in single shot mode for better accuracy

Sig 716 is direct impingement rifle not a Gas piston (long/short).
