I had a good friend in college who was dyslexic. We never had any classes together but he was an actor in many plays and we were in a few together. Many years later he wrote me an email. He was about 35. The email looked like it had been written by a kindergartener. I could barely read jt. All the misspelled words. I had a hard time believing it was from my college friend. Then I remembered that he had told me he was dyslexic. I thought about all the plays he'd been in and how difficult it must have been for him to do things like learn lines and even graduate. I found a new respect for my friend that day.

I also used to fail in exams but now I am doing bit better in studies from even struggling to score 45% now to score 70% (An Average) I know it is not much. I neither had teachers like Ram in this movie nor anyone understood my problem until when I was 10th grade. I still remember that I had a strict tutor who called me names, scolded me, insulted me by calling me "Fraud" etc whenever I wasn't able to do math problems. I used to hate going to school not because I don't like learning but I don't wanted get scolded again. But I had the self confidence of proving them all wrong who humiltated me infront of whole class, insulted me, some classmates who made fun of me for getting low grades and people who doubted me of being successful in future and pursing my aim career. These all things I just use as a fuel. Even my parents especially my mother is not comfortable talking about Dyslexia since I have it. One day I will also help these students with same condition as me like Ram did in this movie. This shows that movie with good motive is always capable of making an impact. Even though I watched this movie for the first time years ago whenever I remember about this movie it always gives me hope for better tomorrow.

this touched a nerve for me, seeing because of my Autism I've always been misunderstood and seen as nothing but a disabled kid. this has basically destroyed my life, having been stuck in a negative spiral for more then 10 years, I've lost count after ten years. so seeing a boy being understood for who he is and what he can do, touched me deeply, because my help always came and still comes too late. the only reason I'm able to express this now, is because I recently found medicine that is the solution to a problem of mine that has kept me in this negative spiral for so many years. (the worst part is that people online have shown me that they'd rather be jerks than open themselves up to others. so even if I opened up now, I won't be surprised when people try to belittle me further. but that is the sad reality we all live in, people would rather act like jerks and childish, than try to act like that teacher did.)

This movie was way ahead of its time and I don’t think there has been a movie since in Bollywood which shows the difficulties of special needs children in India. The education system in India is still not up to scratch to facilitate special needs kids amongst everyone. Also, parents fail to recognise that their kid might have some psychological issues or just not possess the capability to successfully meet their needs of unrealistic expectations. The movie perfectly catches that aspect of a common Indian student as well, which leads to depression, self harm and suicidal behaviour. I am lucky enough to have parents who understood my limits and never forced me with the weight of unrealistic expectations and accepted me for who I am. But I know so many of my friends who had parents who weren’t as accepting and set unrealistic goals which led them to be depressed and even have a feeling of worthlessness about themselves just because they couldn’t meet their parents expectations. Being depressed is still widely seen as an “excuse” within the Indian household and is taken for granted.

The english subbed one is called 'like stars on Earth' and it is BEAUTIFUL. It is so rare to see movies about any kind of disability that shows the REALITY of what its actually like to be disabled. While I personally would have preferred it to be more about actual mental health, learning disabilities in Indian culture is a big, big deal. So it makes sense that the movie would focus on learning disabilities over mental health. After all, you can only conquer stigmas one step at a time. the movie is a 10/10 for me.

I've never told anyone at all how relatable this movie really is in my opinion. its really hard for me to type and plus I have auto correct as someone who is slightly dyslexic. And everyone calls me "lazy" or "stupid" for not being able to read or write properly. And whoever is going through this, they really don't deserve this. They deserve respect and kind words no matter who or what the situation is. Every child no matter what if they have a disability or whatever it is, Everyone or every child deserves respect no matter the situation or what they are going through at home.
@demetriusmarcusthethird2 жыл бұрын
This movie is a complete masterpiece. It shows all the misconceptions with kids "faking" mental illnesses and naming them as "being lazy". I remember watching this movie for the first time and it really made me cry. Parents should definitely understand that instead of making all kids doctors or engineers, they should encourage what the child is really good at or can do something great. At last, parents only want whats good for their childs

Watch the movie with English subtitles. Believe me man. It's so much better than any movie imaginable. If this was made in Hollywood it would had easily grabbed 8-10 Oscars. You won't be able to understand the songs used to convey the emotion but the song are so beautiful that it literally makes my eyes wet everytime i hear them. This movie is priceless.

11:29 That is beyond heartbreaking. Instead of congratulating his son for developing a talent he never knew he had, Nandkishore just lets guilt for abusing Ishaan consume him, breaks down in tears and walks away. That is literally turning his back on his own son

As an autistic person who also had problems in school, mainly in mathematical and scientific subjects, but did better in more creative subjects (but honestly my problems were more in socialising and making friends than anything else) this movie is the sweetest and most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever seen at the same time. I was lucky enough to get diagnosed when I was around 13, and this child even more for being diagnosed at such a young age, though it’s terrible what he went through before that. I hope such a movie helped a good number of parents realise how to help their children in situations like these.
@jacob96732 жыл бұрын
I did too- but when I hit college I tried in depth STEM subjects, despite what people suggested I do. Luckily, my mother encouraged me and I excelled. It’s a lot easier to understand the subject when it connects with everything else. I’ve had my diagnosis since I was 6. A lot of people Asperger’s/ADHD (what I have) as an excuse, but it’s not- but understanding it can help you.

There's a film that will make you cry even more, an indian which I do not remember the name of. Main thing is that there were two parents that had like 4 children. Each of these children were well nurtured and well looked after. The parents were forced to move out of their house because the children wanted one of them to live with them. The bickered over it and decided the mother would go with some of the adults they now were, same with the father. When they moved into their new homes they were neglected, treated like objects. The only people who actually saw the mother and father as human beings were the grandchildren. yada yada some stuff happens find the movie idk.

I am from a defense background, when this movie was released in 2007, our CO, made all parents watch this movie arranged by him, free of cost. I don't know how many parents actually applied this in their life, even if a single parent has changed himself for the sake of his child, then this movie is successful. I hope Indian parents and other Asian parents understand their children.
