The movie is a true story set in the late 19th century Kolkata. Nabin Chandra Das was the inventor of Roshogolla and if anyone ever visits Kolkata they can still find his shop in the Esplanade area which is now renamed as "K.C. DAS". Now his great grandson is the owner of the K.C. Das.

British india started from bengal, calcutta being the capital. Bengal was known for its rich heritage business and wealth. However, post colonisation, bengal became poor and the backbone of its economy was broken. Loots by foreigners, food famine and mass killings were part of bengals journey from rich to poor. Unfortunately the scenes evident in these movies are actual demonstration of how much people suffered. I am a bengali settled in uk. The first british east-india company is walkable from my native home. I feel bad how bengal was destroyed. Somehow bengal is growing up, but at much slower pace as compared to the rest of india
