F16 or F21 is almost 4.75 gen aircraft with AN/APG-79 or 81 radars which are best in the world. Paxtan has none, the only thing similar in Paxtani F16 with potential Indian F21 is airframe & possibly AMRAAM missiles that's it.

F16 is good fighter not best in today's standards. India's proposed F16 has increased radar range, but not great advantage compared to F16 A/B/C/D/E/F/Viper. Problems are single engine configuration-no twin engine, increased radar cross section, enemy also possess this making them to understand pros and cons, and less combat range. Seems only Rafale or Typhoon only can fill Indian Medium weight category space in today's standards. F35 or F22 are only two fighters in US arsenal which may suit India defense requirements in future.

I would like to reply with positivity without sarcasm. No country would ever ever like to lose Pilot even if we lose a fighter jet no issue. Thats exactly why India Govt allocates 76 billion dollar budget every year in which Airforce gets good capital procurement share to buy new or modernize fleets. Approx operating costs per hour as per Indian operations are 3000 dollars for MIG-21, 4000 Dollars for HAL Tejas, 4000 Dollars for Mirage-2000, 6500 Dollars for MIG-29, 10000 dollars for SU30MKI and 16000 dollars for Rafale. For Rafale, its expected improved engine costs may come down to 10000 dollars. Everyone agrees MIG-21 despite of its good speed, maneuverability & low costs have safety & upgrade issues. It has to be removed from Indian flight inventory no doubt. In light weight category if operating costs between 4000 to 7000 USD its ok & in medium or heavy category if OPH between 8000 to 15000 USD its worthy. F16 biggest first disadvantage is Pak operates it who understand its pros and cons. Its radar cross section is more than Rafale/Typhoon. With F16 Operating cost per hour we can operate Rafale or Typhoon. Combat range is less than Rafale or Typhoon. If you still don't believe dogfight & BVR fight latest F16 viper with Pak F16 to know the results.

@@vaimurthy F16 is not better than MIG-29 or Mirage-2000. 70% experts claim MIG-29 Zhuk radar gives advantage over F16, and 30% experts claim F16 AIM-120 missile is very effective. Depending on Pilot exp you can place F16 less capable or equal to MIG-29. Rafale may be superior to F16 & F15 and less than F35 & F22. Mirage 2000 is high speed & high-performance fighter as of today due to its Radar and Missile range upgrade option you may consider less capable than F16 in air-to-air combat. I think if you fit it with Meteor or long range BVR missile its superior to F16 & F15. Unlike China after Tejas MK1 & MK2 better India should stop using single engine fighter due to its huge area and range required.
