India needs to understand that we are not mature enough to export Fighter jets at this stage. all the rejections furthur fuel more rejections. Our best bet to export will arise when we induct tejas mk1a and tejas mk2 in large numbers. We should focus on aux exports such as ammunitions, missiles, air defence, helicopters and Artillery guns for time being.

Good Rationale for Kaveri : 1. Tejas fleet is quite large. 190 nos. Total .A 90kN engine that can directly replace F404 engines is imminent. Typhoon engine has the best characteristics. 90kN thrust with 60kN dry. Specs are also quite similar to F404 engine. A 110 kN engine will have different diameter and length. This will affect everything. It would be better to use 110 kN engine for MWF instead of F414 engines.

these talks of tuning and detuning engines from sub 90kN upto 130kN are missing the point entirely : size, aerodynamics, power to weight ratio, Weight reduction thru materials research, repairability, endurance, the list goes on and on. No 1 aircraft engine is capable of delivering on all counts on 1 particular type of aircraft. To even think that 1 engine can be tinkered to fit 2 or even 3 different aircraft, and do a decent job is living in a fool's paradise. Kaveri 2 research should not only continue, the budget should be doubled. If required. ED can raid a few more crooked business to redress any shortfalls. Heck, we'll even name it after him/her .. like Shilpasree or Kundra Kaveri.

Advantages of Tejas MK1A 1. Lightest supersonic jet which has low RCS 2. Comes with cheaper long range BVRs like Astra 3. Good for defensive purpose 4. Reliable GE engine with high availability 5. Target markets includes Africa, South America and some asian countries who dont have lot of budget to afford premium jet Disadvantage 1. HAL who cannot deliver single MK1A on time 2. Less operational history due to point 1 If we fix disadvantages, it will sell well. We have to fix it faster, otherwise it will be a missed opportunity as Boeing is designing trainer/light attack jet. Boeing has muscle power, scale to deliver along with US influence.

Few years back I had suggested on this very channel that Indian navy should consider to make an airbase in Karwar, that way it can be totally integrated Naval base, also with air base, the pilots can be trained here fully instead of in Goa where the base has semi civilian use. Pilots can be trained, fly sorties & CAPS. Also by using HALE, it can keep a watch on shipping happening in the west coast. Also this base would be home to the Western fleet, including carriers, submarines & destroyers & having its own integrated air base helps to provide top tier situational awareness. There are limitations for using Goa airbase, as it has civilian usage too, also some time can be lost in case of emergency deployment of Fighter aircraft as there might be civilian flights occupying the tarmac. Goa will be the base for operating P-8I for Western coast.

Yeah that's why it didn't crashed for more than 5000hrs. of flight time whereas those ““sexy”” design aircrafts fall like one winged bird multiple times during their development phase.
