@@harshavandumost probably, 9 would mean we would have at least 6 operation fleets. Nothing more than that. We might send fleets to the Red Sea, South China Sea and maybe the North China Sea at most while having our own coastal regions under the guard of 3 fleets. The difficulty is not manufacturing 6 or 9 aircraft carriers but having at least 6 fleets which means at least 18 destroyers and 18 frigates with 6 or 9 supply ships and 12 or 18 attack submarines which also needs minesweepers to check for minefields in the operational region. This also means at least 144 to 216 carrier operations fighters and 48 or 64 anti-submarine helicopters and the required personnel. It is a huge undertaking upon the government and the defense expenses.

@@herearewe - yes you are largely correct. But most of this is already factored in and budgeted for by the defence mini. Except the 12/18 attack subs part, that alone remains gimmicky with the extent of work progress so far. 75 destroyers/frigates are already planned and budgeted. Air frames are already getting very heavy push. The moment designs are finalised, orders will rain. Plus all the allied supply chain and support ecosystem. Only the subs remain to be resolved strongly.

I don't think 9 aircraft carriers will be there at any given time. By the time the 4th aircraft carrier will be inducted, vikramaditya will be retired and by the time the 6th is constructed Virat will be retired. At any time we will be having 5-6 aircraft carriers only which is more than enough.

Drone Deal is not that nuts if they did not drop like flies by the hands of Houthis...it's around 2-2.5 Billion for 31 drones and another 1.5 for the plethora of equipment and radars that are going to go in it...US DoD posted a List of the same and it's kind of over priced but still gives unmatched capabilities to us...Rafale M though...22 Single Seaters with 75% of availability will be only 16 ready fighters for 6+ Bilion USD....on a brand new AC...talk about loot...

India need more submarine,destroyers, air defense system and anti-ship missiles rather than aircraft carrier. If we let be with what's the use of a 40000 ton carrier while China has 80000 ton super carrier. First protect our own area then projecting power elsewhere. We also need fighter jets and attack drone for navy. Not only for aircraft carrier but also for their land base. Fighter aircraft is important to keep your enemy out of your EEZ. In my openion navy should maintain a handsome squadron of fighter jets without rely on airforce. It will help airforce keep their eyes more on China and Pakistan centric.

@xjclk I like your confidence but the issue with india is not funds, manpower or research capability it is unfortunately the archaic procurement procedures. We should have started inducing fighters for the MRFA by now but we are still stuck in limbo. Even a bankrupt state like Pakistan has managed to keep their armed forces formidable with a vision to enhance their fleet with the JF-31. We are a messed up country but illogical patriotism makes us see the other way.

I don't think by 6 carriers RM means 6 aircraft carriers. It might be, that 4 helicopter carriers are also considered in these 6 carriers. We know Indian Navy is working on INS Vishal design, so one more carrier is anticipated after IAC 2 repeat order. Most likely INS Vishal will replace INS Vikramaditya. But that 4th aircraft carrier is something new. So if this is the case than India might have 4 Helicopter and 4 Aircraft carriers in future.

Instead of developing HLT-42 marut it would be better if we develop a vtol fighter based on Tejas Naval or TEDBF so that we can build 4 more LHDs and use them to launch fighters converting them into role of Aircraft carriers. Also we need to work with France more closely to gain access to EMALS as US won't give it to us and can't go Chinese way of snooping and stealing. Also it would be better if UK decides to sell one of their aircraft carrier then we should buy it as it is better rather than build INS Vishal and take 10 years.

Su35S is the best choice for IAF as 1. It is super manuverable 2. Can carry hypersonic missiles 3. It is cheaper than competitors 4. It belongs to the dame family of SU30MKI and hence can be easily manufactured in India 5. Russia is the most trustworthy strategic partner

If su35 is giving Transfer of technology as has been stated with very lucrative offer then I think we should go with it because rafale is giving nothing as promised. We have bought 36 rafales and will buy 26 for navy that is enough and is very expensive. Because rafale is not giving any transfer of technology as earlier promised. Also with no stake. HAL should go ahead with su35 as our engineers scientists learns a lot and HAL can make innumerable fighters according to need. Also HAL has experience in working with Russian fighters more than French. HAL can build su30mki from scratch. Imports without transfer of technology should be limited and in extreme emergencies. Although you may say rafale is better than su35 but both are planes whereas su35 will be a whole fighter MADE BY INDIA FOR INDIA actually. And it is not on papers. Whatever Russia says it does. Whereas all other western countries just says only and gives nothing. Just wastes time. If you want any fighters in numbers then it should be local like mk1a, mk2, tedbf and others. But in mrfa it should be strictly be on transfer of technology and without any hitches or glitches or obstruction due to war. We want best of best fighters with least money. Later HAL can make any upgrades or can put newer technologies according to needs like they are doing it with su30mki. In performance both the planes are good in their respective fields.

Remember russia did not give any meaningful ToT even after we ordered 1000 jets including 260 Su 30. Second Su 35 does not offering any significant capability unlike Rafale. I agree that Dasault is not offering anything because they know they are the favorites. Time to bring Eurofighter into the equation and pit them against Rafale. Remember Eurofighter was top in the evaluation and lost to Rafale in financials

If buying rafale is so desperate and necessitated then let it be. Because I want everything should be developed within the country as Russia su35 lies in that category. Whatever we are discussing is all in theory. The final say should be by the pilots. What they say is should be taken. It is them to fly. As far as Financials or AATMANIRBHAR BHARAT is concerned my say is with su35s. I see rafale as a big benefit only is that it is heavy on China. About typhoon again I don't understand it is made up by different nations and that too with conditions. I don't see anything nearby with Russia or rafale capabilities.

@@ajaybhaskar5052 Russia offering many tech was not available. But Su 30 is not in that category. What we do in Su 30 is nothing but assembly. Rafale will do if we order 114 jets . But that will not bring any know how. I agree the disadvantage Eurofighter brings in terms of multiple nations involvement. But they are willing to transfer the manufacturing to India with ToT. In terms capability Eurofighter is right there with Rafale. Whether it is radar or BVR missilles or EW capability. Infact Eurofighter has better engine with higher climb rate, higher ceiling and is faster. If we get complete control in India Eurofighter is not a bad choice. I prefer Rafale as it has carrier version which Eurofighter lacks and commonality with existing Rafale. But Dassault is playing hard ball. So we need to pitch it against Eurofighter. I am not convinced with Su 35 which dont even have AESA radar and usually russian jets have poor availability. And their EW capabilities are questionable.

Aircraft carrier afe too vulnerable & too expensive to deploy to maintain. Multi purpose General purpose links landing deck helicopter ship would be of more use. For both military & humanitarian, work. Military is a consumer too much and it would withdraw funds from everywhere and cripple the country.

Obviously you can't use your brain and also at the same time politicians doesn't feel like elaborating the topics. 9 carriers not at once but a plan for coming 5 to 6 decades. New will replace old it's simple. Navy should also work on 4th carrier cause 3rd will replace vikramaditya. We need 4th to maintain our plan for ( having 3 carrier at any given time ).
