The IMD recorded 228.1 mm rainfall in Delhi, the highest in 88 years bringing relief to the extreme heatwave conditions. The factors that pushed Delhi to heavy floods are as follows- 1. Climatic Factors- According to NASA, for every degree increase in Earth’s temperature, the amount of water vapour in the atmosphere can increase by about 7%. This can lead to heavy rainfall in a very short period of time. 2. Rapid Urbanisation- Delhi is undergoing one of the world’s fastest urban expansions with little regard to land’s natural topography & drainage capacity. The Delhi floods can be categorized under man-made disasters because of- 1. Excessive and unplanned construction and encroachments along the Yamuna floodplains. 2. Discharging pollutants into the river leading to siltation and rise in the level of river bed. 3. The city’s outdated drainage infrastructure coupled with neglect of proper and regular maintenance leading to frequent blockages. Way Forward- 1. Keeping checks and balances on encroachment and unplanned construction in the NCR. 2. Ensuring proper wastewater treatment before releasing them into the water bodies. 3. Allocation of funds to completely revamp the colonial-era drainage infrastructure to modern standards. 4. Increasing the green cover in the city that would allow proper water seepage and also minimize the issue of ‘Urban Heat Island’. 5. Several flood mitigating measures like raising and strengthening the Yamuna marginal embarkments can resolve the Delhi floods issue to a great extent.

If you are reading newspaper you will only get information what's written in it, but sir provides the third eye angle of that news( background data or relevant information regarding it), it will save your lot of time and sir also share some additional information while delivering lectures based on their knowledge and experience of learning.
