Beautiful Indian. Excellent work on the restoration. Would have been nice to hear it run and see it riden.

The restoration is very nice however a few incorrect items are present. 1940 had 18 inch wheels only and a one year only front end that was 3/8 in. narrower This bike has an incorrect front fender as it has the bulge in the lower valance for the 16 in. wheels and wider front end. It is missing the half round trim on the tops of the front and rear fender. 1940 also had a one year only hi-low switch for the headlight.

Lefthand throttle was optional. Indian started with that with the army models. So the rider could shoot at the same time as control the throttle. Easy to swap around.

Just in case some people don't realize it, a new Indian 4 is being produced at Indian UK. It is sold in the US as a Dakota 4. The most beautiful bike in production since the Indian 4s of the 40s.

Paul certainly built a beauty. The commentary is incorrect about Indian starting with a belt drive motorcycle ( by the way they and others called it a "Motocycle " in those years ) Indian was chain drive from day one. they had a brief one year fling in 1911 with an OPTIONAL belt drive but wisely dropped this dead end design the next season.

Well....if truth be known... As Rolex was the first and original wristwatch, Indian was the first and original American motorcycle. And for the first 50 years of American Motorcycles, Indian kicked Harley-Davidson's rear end in racing and in street bikes. Today, Gregory Polaris has breathed life back into Indian - and Harley-Davidson better look over their shoulder cuz in the first year of revival, the Indians have overtaken Harley in the engine, looks, and chrome departments.

John Ratko I noticed that Indian & Victory motorcycles were commonplace at the 2015 Daytona Bike Week. That's gotta be dipping into Harley sales considering that the new Polaris built Indians are only into their 2nd year production. Remember that Polaris is a larger company than Harley-Davidson.
