I waited for a year for Indian to make a street version of the flat track bike. When it came out, I was the first to test ride one. I was going to love it or hate it. I ordered a base model because I knew I would modify it. I was the first in my area to buy one and I started to do the changes right away. I ordered the tracker seat, number plates, foot pegs, bar end mirrors, clear turn signals, and plate relocation bracket. I had a local shop print up custom tank stickers also. The exhaust was another problem. The bike was so new, no one made a system for it, so I made my own. I removed the cat and got 2 1/2 in stainless tubing and a custom muffler from Dime City Cycles in Tampa FL. Welded it all myself and made mounting brackets and it sounds awesome.

Stop press, 2021 FTR 1200 has 17" wheels with much fatter stickier tyres [far better for the road]. Steeper head angle [to steer and turn quicker], revised fuel mapping and fully adjustable suspension on the base model. Top of the range carbon model has Ohlins.

I have the 2019 and love it and glad it has all the things that most people hate it keeps this bike in a class of its own, I have to give credit to Ryan Loyds for the down load he is a genius when it comes to performance, anyone with an Indian needs him to do a bench flash on your ECU believe me you won’t be disappointed, runs oh so good no issues at all

hey dudes, FTR S 2019 owner here, yes. the first batteries are a bit wonky. I couldn't start the motor at around 4 celcius, I had to warm up the engine block with hot water to start. I replaced the battery with lithium. that did the trick. if you buy a model from 2019, ask for the battery if it is been replaced. and go for the Jekill and Hide exhaust :D got damn that brutal roar makes the kids hyped.

I would love for Indian to make another bike with this motor that is more like a street fighter style bike. Shorter wheelbase, lighter, slightly more aggressive ergonomics, sportier wheel and tire set up, and let it rev a little higher for more horsepower power. It would be like the Harley Bronx that never was... only better because it’s not a Harley 😂

I have a 2019 base model and complained to my dealer about the cold stalling. Indian provided a re-map that completely solved the problem at no charge. It also solved what I considered an annoyance where when closed throttle engine braking it would seem to just "give up" at about 5 mph. Maybe to prevent stalling? Now you can compression brake to nothing like any other bike I have ridden in 52 years of riding. Thanks for the info on the tires !! I have been waiting for someone to say you can go up 1 size in the rear without any real problems. Where is your video on that ?
@MOTOMARVELOUS3 жыл бұрын

@@MOTOMARVELOUS I have a follow up question. The 150/70 to a 160/60 will in fact change the rear ride height by 9mm. (lower) This will change the rake and trail numbers. Stock is 26.3 degrees and 5.1 inches. My question is, how much would you have to raise the fork tubes to maintain the stock rake and trail. In other words, lower the whole bike by 9mm. I cannot find a front BT16 anywhere here in the states. Just the rear. However I have found Continental Road Attack in the sizes you talk about. I also asked a dealer about installing the 160/60 on the 4.25 inch rim. He says he has to check with Continental to see what rim width is ok for that size. USA is the land of the lawyers. I know this is a lot so thanks in advance.
@MOTOMARVELOUS3 жыл бұрын
@@tonyciriello6872 Hmm, would you even need to raise the forks, when its only 9 mm. I think its all about how it feels. There are a lot of owners who's riding with a lowering kit, witch makes even lower in the rear end. About the bt16 you are right, i was contacted after the video with the same informations, so im definitely going the the T31 instead 🤘

Eh? No bike with a 1,000cc + engine can be braked down to 5mph without stalling. My Gen 1 Tuono couldn't cruse below 30mph in 1st gear... without slipping the clutch to stop it from stalling or jerking on standard gearing.
@tonyciriello6872 Жыл бұрын
@@paulgregory777 I meant that it would "give up" compression braking as if you pulled the clutch in.

I run a Sawicki Speed slip on and it's the best out there in my opinion. Sick soundand pops and snarled when you let off the gas. I'll admit I do like the high bend S&S and akros just for looks but you're talking $2k+ where the Sawicki us under $700 and gives you an extra 10hp. Get a PV3 Tuner and bump the top rpm 500 to 9500 and dump the speed limiter governor and you can get 150mph fairly easy. Don't do this if you aren't experienced enough. Mine will power wheelie the first 3 gears. In sport.

I have a 23 1200 Sport and have my own tip.no matter how good Jersey Mike's, don't ride your bike in 26 degree weather after 2 solid days of melting snow . I found out that it still freezes in the shade and a slight blip on the throttle spins hard, catches some Dre and does a 10' backflip in the air then lands on your ass cause a totaled bike and rider. I need to move to Florida or something. 😯😲😧

When the battery isn't dead, it cranks several times and fails. Usually the 3rd or 4th try it will start. If i have to take it back one more time I'm going to get my money back using the "Lemon Law". I'll never buy an Indian again.

Hey man! Congrats with your new bike - its gonna be a blast! When that said, I would never ever recommend the FTR to any beginner, but now it's on the way, so I'm glad for you. Just make sure to take your time to learn how to ride probably (just drive for maaaaany hours) and then take it slow. The bike is a freaking beast, so again take your time learn how powerful your new bike is. Go find the FTR 1200 owners group on Facebook, a lot of nice people, and if you have any problems og concerns, there would always be someone to help you :) And then, just have a ton of fun on the FTR! It's the coolest biker ever! :)

They routinely stomp KTM 890 Dukes in the Super Hooligan race series and this is on the Twisties like Road Atlanta, Daytona, etc Fully equipped, these will run within 2 seconds per lap against the GP bikes on those same tracks.
