Great ISRO!! Unless the new moblie handsets come with in-built GPS and IRNSS chipset to receive the satellite signals (to use both if travelling outside IRNSS coverage area), along with an option to select GPS/IRNSS, we cannot experience the thrill of using our own IRNSS. Eagerly waiting to feel proud and admire!

+Pramod Rai It will take atleast 10 more years before you can use IRNSS in your mobile
@PramodRaiK8 жыл бұрын
+sanch Sanchayan oh god! That will be bad if it goes that way. But I don't think so. Looking at the speed how new mobiles are been manufactured with new features and launched in market, as well as ISRO's encouragement by already getting together with mobile manufacturers for imlmementation, I feel, mobiles handsets in India with IRNSS option should be available by 2017.

The interviewer asked very relevant questions....thanks for him also I am proud to use our own system. Few questions in my mind from a common man perspective... When we claim that IRNSS is more accurate, Can we completely ignore GPS? What if I want to explore a different country that India, can I use IRNSS instead of GPS? Will that work? Why can't they build a system to cover entire globe? Seenu from India

@Sriranjan N.R- Till few months ago Indian Space Research Organisation use to allow access to data 2 years and older for free. But now they allow 6 months old data for free. It’s not clear which satellite data ISRO means, but it’s presumably data from all its satellites, including the Mars Orbiter. The agency currently has Bhuvan Potal, which is updated regularly based on satellite data, and updated regularly.

If there's anything the Modi has actually done, it's giving ISRO a free hand. ISRO succeeds because it's headed by a technocrat. Wish they did the same for all organisation.
@no-smoking4 жыл бұрын
Lol IRNSS was in development long ago, there is something called long term missions, many ISRO scientist spend their whole career developing a particular project, there is no single hero here, like Kalam and his team spent all those years solving for delivery mechanism. So stop believing political propaganda.
@KneelBeforeBlue4 жыл бұрын
@@no-smoking there is no political propaganda here. Just check out the increase in budget allocation
@no-smoking4 жыл бұрын
@@KneelBeforeBlue spacenews.com/figures-show-indian-space-spending-flat-in-recent-years/ There was sufficient money for Isro in the past too, the sudden increase in budget is due to increase in frequency of satellite launches, more interplanetary missions, Chandrayan 2 and Gaganyan mission. Most of which are long term missions and have been in pipeline for over a decade or so even though not being in public domain. So even if it was any other government, generally ISRO gets it's funding and it takes time to develop certain technologies for these missions. Modi happen to be Prime Minister at the time when these missions are happening. The one thing he has done is he made Gaganyan a priority mission nevertheless reaping it's political benefits. Remember when Mars mission happened, nobody knew about it until PM congratulated scientists, now PM is present everytime something important is being launched by ISRO.
@KneelBeforeBlue4 жыл бұрын
@@no-smoking i understand. He happens to be the prime minister. In addition to him getting a lot of publicity, both ISRO and india are getting positive publicity. One example is howdy modi. His term in office might coincidence with all of this, but he's good at promoting science and technology, and India'sachievements onn social media even if it's for his own gain.
@KneelBeforeBlue4 жыл бұрын
@@no-smoking nobody cares whether all of this happened because of him or not. the only thing everyone cares about, is when it goes down in history, he'll be mentioned as being the prime minister at the time.

Folks, why are you all after using IRNSS/GPS on your mobile, even the journalist/interviewer!!. Please follow the purpose of these missions, they are much larger than putting up such satellites/constellations for silly GPS use :-))). We already have an existing solution . Those who are interested to have an Indian version of it, you all should hound Reliance to fund one such project. :-P. May be they can invest the kind of Money on another Indian version of Skybox

GPS is under the control of USA. If, USA stops providing its navigation services to our country we will be in great trouble. previously, during kargil war, USA denied to provide GPS services to our Defence forces. It was the moment the Indian govt. realised to develop our own Navigation systems.
@apburner18 жыл бұрын
So, India, with poverty and starvation, spent shitloads of money on a satellite navigation system it doesn't need (GPS already covers all of the world for free)? Good job India... clap clap... clap...
@arunvignesh70158 жыл бұрын
Actually , India is not starving and not the entire country is poor.According to the latest reports in 2015 the poverty percent had fallen from 21.9% to 12.4% So, It is completely stupid to say that. The thing about IRNSS is that India developed it primarily for it's military use. India has a very large army and its not America's puppet So its prudent for India to develop it's own positioning system than to rely on America. After all America did not provide GPS support to India during our Kargil war.
