HD is doing a good job catching up, but their non-CVOs still suffer from out dated suspension (front and back). Inverted front forks, radius mounted calipers (much better design than what HD uses), and a mono-shock rear end with more travel is a big deal. There's a reason they put the inverted front forks on the CVOs. IMO the new RG headline looks like a European car, but they do look pretty good with 2 Baja Design lights in that space. Challenger for the win in my book, until you get to the CVO ST. Indian needs to respond to that.

I have actually ridden the CVO ST, and that thing is FAST... not very comfortable IMO but fast! However, it's not supposed to be comfortable because it is a race bike for the streets. I too am eager to see what IMC does or "if" they do anything for us that will compare with that bike without having to spend the $90K for the Challenger RR 🤣

I don’t own a Harley or an Indian, I’ve got no bias here. Test rode the heck out of both at bike week. I’m tall 6’4 240, the Indian was much more comfortable. My back was hurting within a few minutes on the road glide. Wind protection, seat comfort, suspension all were noticeably better on the Indian. The Harley had a more aggressive acceleration profile (had to put the challenger in sport mode to get similar throttle response), and while ride command is good, the new Harley screen is a home run. I was playing with their demo unit off the bike and explored all the features, it’s really nice. Indian had a smoother ride at idle obviously, both bikes were not too hot at the engine, and both handled well but to me the Harley felt more nimble at speed and was easier to handle at slow speed (keeping it loaded of course!). Now I know many people say the challenger handles better than the road glide, so I want to revisit the comparison in the future and re-test that aspect of the two. The windshield on the Harley was utterly useless. It directed the full blast of air right at my nose, and even with the visor down on a full face helmet all I heard was wind at anything close to highway speed. Sound, both were good with stock exhaust but I think the Harley was slightly better. I don’t like stupid loud exhaust anyway, I just want a nice rumble. Just my thoughts…

I still prefer the Challenger, but with that being said here are the things that I liked that Harley has done with the new Road Glide. I like how easy you can swap out bars now. I like the bigger saddlebags and how they got rid of the stretched bags. I like the design of the gas tank. It is about time they put LED lights on their bike and I like how they did the rear tail lights. Where the bike is failing is no inverted front suspension, no rear mono shock, no adjustable windshield and I prefer analog gauges over the big 12" screen but that's just me. I have very sensitive eyes to bright light and I have a feeling that 12" screen would mess with my eyes. Great job on the video and thanks for your service man!

I appreciate it, thanks for checking out the video. I also know others who would rather still have physical gauges, but I feel that might be something that goes away and then comes back as most things do. I wouldn't be surprised if one day there is a VR display in motorcycle helmets as standard. I also agree that HD has stepped up their game with the 24s but I also still prefer the Challenger!

Really great and fair comparison video. I think you present the differences well and are considerate to not bash Harley or its customer base. I myself own a ‘23 Challenger Dark Horse. I recently test rode the new ‘24 Road Glide and it is hands down 10x better than the prior model. I noticed the same issues you faced, like your knees being higher up and hips further apart. I also noted that while I wasn’t getting buffeted on the new model, I was getting a lot more wind noise than I get on my Challenger. What really caused me to think seriously about moving to the Harley is (1) the infotainment, (2) I actually like the new fairing, and (3) I love the feel of the Milwaukee 8. It made me really miss what I liked most about the Chieftain I owned previously. If Indian offered the Challenger with the 116, I’d be all in! I appreciate your video, and it helped me realize that I still love my Challenger and it’s going to stay right where it is 😁

Thanks TC, the RG it is absolutely better than the outgoing model, but IMO still not right... for me. Also, I am ready for an update to the Challenger, it has had a great run and with a few tweaks I think it will have another great run. I also like the 116 engines, they sound great, perform great, and look pretty good too! However, IMO I think air cooled motors, unfortunately, are on the chopping block to be replaced by liquid cooling. Who knows, we may have a few more 116 options before that happens though.

I agree with you on the ergonomics. I am 6'2'' and I visited the local HD shop, sat on a 24 RG. My legs were way too far apart. I just wanted to get off of it. A lot of Harley owners have the mentality of "oh you are wrong because you can just get a seat" but I do not agree with that. Yes I can get a seat, for a Challenger too. Why am I expected to do that? I just paid near 30k for this brand new bike and I am not comfortable but somehow it is my fault for not buying a seat. I never understood how it became the norm to buy a seat and a windshield after buying a Harley... Thats another K for a bike that you just bought. On a Challenger or Pursuit, you do that for looks whenever you want not because you need to. Harley needs to keep up with the shocks too. I've met two HD mechanics, one retired from it. These are hard core Harley guys who spent their life fixing Harleys. They both hate the factory shocks on pretty much any Harley. As an American icon, I wish Harley would keep up and make something truly great. I think 24 RG is a huge step in that direction. I just wish there was an Indian dealer in my town. Closest Indian dealer is 2hrs away and I might go Harley because of that. Also the people at my local HD shop here are just amazing people.

That's awesome and horrible all at the same time LOL. Ergonomics are important to me as well and you are so right about spending that amount of money on a bike and then having to rebuild the bike (for the older models) but HD people say that's the best part? There is no mystery I am not a fan of HD but I can recognize good work and yes, HD has made some steps in the right direction (with the new bikes) but not enough IMO. That is unfortunate that you do not have a local dealership in your area and taking a two-hour ride for service is a lot I agree.

I think your comparison is fair! There are definitely pros and cons to each bike. Each rider will value those differences based on their individual riding style. Personally I think the Indian motor sounds better (reminds me of a muscle car). I like the tech on the HD, but there are still bugs in it. I feel like Indian should address the turning radius (seems like a fixable issue).
@FinesseTheChallenger
@FinesseTheChallenger 3 ай бұрын
Appreciate it, I think if the bike couldn't make a U-Turn on a normal street then I would say yeah that's an issue however, there is nothing wrong with HD turning better just like there is nothing wrong with HD shaking like they do...just a quirk of the bike. I can't speak for either brand but IMO it's not that relevant of an issue I am sure I can think of something else that would need fixing before that LOL.
@RidingandWrenching
@RidingandWrenching 3 ай бұрын
@@FinesseTheChallenger it might be an issue for someone that owns both. I have a similar issue switching between my different RGs. The controls are different on both bikes, so I have to consciously think about which bike I'm on to do simple things like adjust the volume. I'd have the same issue if I had an Indian and a HD....which bike am I on before I attempt a tight u turn. I agree it's not a major issue and probably not an issue at all for many riders. Good video.... Now that there are a few comparison videos out there, yours is par for the course. By that, I mean most of the ones I've seen have been from an H-D slant as that is the focus of what they ride/own/prefer. Yours is no different as it is from an Indian slant. That's not bad, but it is what it is. As most do say (as you did), you have to go out & ride these bikes to make an informed decision on your own personal preferences. Like you, I'm team Indian, all the way ! I'm a big fan of the new Road Glide CVO ST, but for $42,000+, I'd take that $$$ & go buy a Challenger Elite & still have some $$$ left over for improvements. Long story short, the simple truth is that there is Harley…. And almost a Harley. I have nothing against an Indian. But at rallies and bike nights, so many ppl say my bike is as good as a Harley. So Harley is the baseline that everything else is compared too. It didn’t mater if it’s an Indian, a Honda, Yamaha etc. Everyone in one way or another compares it to a Harley. I guess it helps them justify their purchase. I like all bikes, but Harley will always be the benchmark.
@FinesseTheChallenger
@FinesseTheChallenger 25 күн бұрын
I don't think of HD (the 2nd American motorcycle company) as being a benchmark because until "2024" every person that I spoke to personally who had purchased an HD motorcycle found it necessary to replace almost everything on the bike making it no longer a HD but a one-off custom. I do not consider handlebars and exhaust because everyone changes that, I am talking suspension, lights, seats, not to mention the 80mph death wobble, etc.. if that is a benchmark then the bar is low. Not to take anything away from HD because all of these things are subjective, and they have been operating continuously since 1903, which is amazing, even though people don't really talk about the years they were owned by a bowling ball company (AMF) and produced some of the worst bikes in HD history, but that's neither here nor there lol. As far as the comparisons go, I think that people are so conditioned to associate American cruisers with HD because HD has some of the best marketing divisions, I have ever seen for almost any brand automotive or not, and it is hard to look at something and not compare them especially if you own one or know someone who does. But benchmark...? I guess it depends on where you come from because when I look at motorcycles, I use IMC as a benchmark. I have ridden just about everything you can buy in the US and others overseas for cruising including HD, BMW, Honda, Triumph, Suzuki, etc... IMC has its flaws just like any other brand. Still, I don't think there is any justification needed after making your choice, you buy and ride whatever you want to buy and ride... it's great to have options. Now, if you are talking maneuverability... then yes, HD is a benchmark but...when we are talking about reliability, comfort, and pricing off the showroom floor, IMO absolutely not, and my assumption is that the majority of IMC owners have similar thoughts if they decide one way or another or even if they purchase both.

Never had a HD or an Indian, I'm on a 2020 Triumph Rocket 3 GT right now. But very much thinking of changing to a more comfortable bike. And for that looking towards Indian or HD. The Indian would be my first choice, it looks better than the HD. BUT.... some things holding me back and makes me look at HD again : Indian has some great features (like the trickle charger plug on the fairing!) but some things I just don't get. Why still a cable clutch? It's 2024! Why still analog gauges? It's 2024! Only digital info on the cluster look like they were a 1900's calculator. And some small thingies like a Hill Hold system, or Android Auto on the infotainment cluster would be nice ... Seems like some missed chances here for Indian. Certainly because Indian is a few K more expencive than the HD here in Europe.

Agree, I think there were some opportunities missed for IMC however, the bikes have been mostly unchanged since 2020 and 2025 will be the new model year update so I'm speculating some of those if not all of those issues will be addressed for 2025. As far as the cable clutch both brands use cable clutch however, HD has some sort of... mid-cable contraption on their bikes which I assume makes it easier to swap out... but I am not really sure why it's there. At any rate, definitely get out there and test-ride them both, I am going to go out on a limb and say that HD has nothing that comes close to the ergonomic comfort that IMC offers off the showroom floor (just my opinion...not trying to sway you one way or the other... just saying LOL). When you decide, I would love to know which one you chose and why! Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing back from you!

this sounded like, everything that is good on Harley lets knock it down, and everything that is bad on Indian, lets hype it up.

Not at all, IMO this is the best out of the box package HD has done. The 24 HD lineup is good it’s just not offering what I am looking for in a bike and that’s ok. If you are in the HD ecosystem I think it will be a great choice.

You mention the fact that Indian dominated the initial races of King of the Baggers. What you didn't mention was that immediately after Harley started dominating and kept dominating the races and Indian has yet to catch back up. This was all before the release of the current (next Gen) Road Glides. The bottom line is that currently with the new release of the Road Glides Harley has Indian beat hands down. Even your buddy Robert Simmons stated that he sold his Pursuit because it turns like an aircraft carrier compared to Harleys. You can't be the king of performance if you can't perform. Turning is a key component of performance of any motor vehicle but especially a motorcycle.Being an Indian ambassador you are obviously a bit biased, but the facts are the facts. I myself may sound biased towards Harley and I may be a little bit but I am also a fan of the Pursuit. I believe that it is long distance touring done properly.

Being an IMC Ambassador has little to do with it in my opinion, overall, I am a lover of motorcycles in general if anything would make me biased one way or another the fact that I own an Indian Motorcycle is enough beyond that these are just my opinions mixed in with like you said, "the facts". If you want your bike to make those tight turns, then just like I said in the video that is something to consider. You are also correct that after the first season of KoB HD has won the last two I was only using that as a reference as to the larger point that competition is real and is important to the consumers. I love the fact these two brands battle it out on the track it just adds to the flavor of each of these manufacturers. Thanks for checking out the video!

"What you didn't mention was that immediately after Harley started dominating and kept dominating the races and Indian has yet to catch back up." ?? Indian has won 2 years and Harley has 2 years, and they are out numbered 3:1 on the track. How is that dominating? KOB has made numerous rule changes to make it "fair" (mostly to help HD keep up), just like NASCAR, so it's kind of silly to even talk about. And unless you're a cop, who cares about doing circles in a parking lot. BTW the only HD that is better than the Challenger is the new CVO ST. I'll give you that, but even then, it's not that much better. I can't wait to catch one in the wild. Lol

Hey bro I'm a Harley Davidson man but the best riding bike I've ever had a pleasure to ride was an Indian Chieftain! You keep doing what you do, it's ok to beca little biased to what you like because thats just what you're used to! I appreciate your effort and trying to give your honest opinion both subjective and objective!!

I think the bikes themselves and how each company approaches motorcycles are very different once you experience them for yourself. That said, I personally don't have a strong feeling, as you do, towards HD, and that's ok... I just know HD is not for me. As long as we are on two wheels and enjoying our ride little else matters. Ride Every Day and Enjoy It!

@@FinesseTheChallenger well here’s the story: I had a 23 Sport Chief wouldn’t start if it was below 1/2 tank of gas on the side stand cause the retarded engineers put the fuel pickup halfway up the tank somewhere. Also, had a 23 standard Chieftain that had bad fuel injectors with 10 miles on it and it whistled like a tea pot when she started - bought them both within a month of each other and dumped both of them in a trade. Took it in the bum on the trade but I didn’t have any choice cause no one would buy them in a private sale cause everyone knows they are junk.

Shaking my head. Lousy comparison, more opinion than anything else and some of it this guy didn’t even know what things were called, like upside down forks….wtf? inverted forks and just because the style is inverted doesn’t mean they are race inspired or better working. Other than being touring baggers these two bikes are completely different just like apples and oranges are. Both bikes are very cool and have their own unique qualities. Ride what you like, don’t settle for anything less…….

I agree they are very different bikes and the most they have in common is that they are both base model touring bikes. I actually do know what USDs are I say it in the video lol. What I said I didn’t know was if standard forks had a term other than standard. I also agree that you should ride what you want, I say that in the video as well. As far as base models go this is the best bike that HD has made as a starting point (I say that in the video as well lol) however, IMO I prefer IMC because like you said I don’t settle🤷🏾‍♂️ …there are ppl that prefer HD that’s cool too. Thanks for checking out the video 🤙🏿
