Nice job on the Indian sign! I'm a tech teacher and have made hundreds of these types of signs in the last few years in my school shop. One thing I do to prevent the little leaks around tape lines is to use a j roller and really press the tape in before we cut it. Another thing we do is sometimes use Contact Paper (self adhesive shelf liner) as the masking material. I liked your technique of using a paint roller to fix the leaks. Good work

+Brian Smith Thanks Brian, I appreciate you watching! Great tips. Thanks for sharing with everyone. I have studies on the contact paper before but always worried it was a tad too thick and stretchy to cut clean. I'll give er a try now though.

I am glad I found your channel. I have been having problems with my signs and I picked up on a few tricks watching you. The trick to touch up is get as much paint off of the roller when you make the final passes. And the wire brush. Thanks for sharing.

Love the sign! After seeing your new CNC upgrades, I'm looking into getting one like it in my shop. Also, you might try using clear, self adhesive, shelf liner next time you have a similar project. One single piece of masking rather than multiple strips of tape. Saw that on another CNC site somewhere.

Mac n Wood Thanks for watching. The tape holds up pretty week with a v-bit but a straight cut end mill tears it out some. I actually re-taped and trimmed the areas that tore out. Overall it worked really good. I had never tried it before so I did not know what I'd end up with.

Looking damn good! Can you give some insights in the, wood material (plywood or several pieces glued together), tape used and router bit. I tried a similar approach, but my tape got more torn that cut. and gummed up my router bit. Your cuts looks much more clean. Thanks in advance. Bo.
@GotItMade
@GotItMade 9 жыл бұрын
Bo Andersen Thanks Bo. I appreciate you watching. The wood is just a cheap stain grade panel board from Lowes. It's either pine or whiteboard. It's real soft. The tape is just a good quality painters tape. This was the first time I had tried this technique and it worked pretty good but there will be areas of tear out. I just had to re-tape and trim with a razor knife afterward. My bits did not gum up too bad. I was running a 90 degree V-bit at about 14k rpm. Since then I have made a couple using the large 90 V-bit on the large letters and a smaller 90 V-Bit (running wide open) on the smaller letters and had a little better result. I buy all my bits from toolstoday.com. Here's the part number on the bits: 180-20 & RC1102. Hope that helps!

Love the videos that you make! But i have a couple of questions. I am a senior in high school that has been using the schools cnc to make different products for family and friends. I recently saved up enough money to get my own for downstairs. I am a whole lot better then my construction teacher at the machine :) But when i try to recreate a masterpiece, like this sign you made here the tape comes off every time. I tried using different bits like a v-bit(60 degree .25") and a v-bit(90 degrees .5") Am i missing something? Did you change the speed rate? Are you using a different bit? What exactly did you do not to get the tape to come off while cutting out the sign? Is there anyway you can send me the saved file? Thanks Trey
