About tugs,which are very useful boats to have but are always lost in the glamour of the big ships,the IN also has a mixed system in use. It has its own force of 25 boats ,though much depleted at present and uses commercial vessels too. Now this arrangement works well in busy ports like Mumbai,Kochia, Mormugao or Vizag but falls apart in smaller anchorages like Port Blair and in the dedicated naval bases we are setting up on the Konkan and Koromandal coasts. For them the navy has a programme to build a force of 13 tugs of which 6 are under construction. While some will replace older ships quite a few will add to our strength.

So the Tabar is almost as long as HMS Belfast.Yet one is a 4000 ton frigate and the other a 8000 ton cruiser ( standard). It does show how habitability has improved in modern ships.

The ship is accompanied by music! How nice. Very special. What do the persons shout? Great video, it really is. Not just the ship but everything around it as well.

Thanks. 👍I think they are giving three cheers (in Dutch I think this is 3 hoera) but not sure what language they are speaking. In the UK, when we give three cheers, we would say "Hip Hip Hooray" three times but not sure what the translation into Dutch is.

A naval vessel packed with explosives parked in the middle of the City Of London........what could possibly go wrong?
@death_parade
@death_parade 27 күн бұрын
This is a 21st century warship, built to be a survivable platform, not a glass cannon. And certainly not the Halifax style disaster-waiting-to-happen like you are insinuating. This is a warship, not a cargo ship carrying enough explosives to level a city like the SS Mont Blanc was in Canada.

At the risk of sounding harsh, maybe start living in 21st century, that could maybe push out your uninformed brain to seek for more common sense & knowledge!

The INS Tabar flaunts 2 Shahed drone kills and a ship kill patch just below its RBU-6000 launchers. The details on the ship kill are still undisclosed.

How do you know about the movements of these ships in advance?
@ThamesShips
@ThamesShips 28 күн бұрын
There are several methods to use. 1) The Tower Bridge website has a page that shows the scheduled lift times and the name of the vessel that is passing under (unless it is a navy ship when it says "Vessel".) 2) The Port of London website has a scheduled movements section which shows information about expected departures, arrivals and movements. Again, this does not always show military ships. 3) Sometimes unusual movements are posted on X (for example the St Katharine Docks marina account often shows information on unusual vessels arriving there). 4) On the day, it is possible to track the vessel movements using a ship tracking app such as Marine Traffic or Vessel Finder. Using the other methods outlined above, you will have a good idea of when a particular ship is expected to pass but you can use the ship tracking app to see if you have time to go for a cuppa or not before it arrives!

What does the VB in tug names stand for please?
@ThamesShips
@ThamesShips 28 күн бұрын
In the shipping industry, it is common (though not always the case) for vessel names to include the name of the company that owns or operates that vessel. In the case of these tugs, they are operated by Boluda Towage Europe (and you can see the red "B" Boluda logo on the red funnel). The parent company of Boluda Towage Europe is Boluda Corporación Marítima which is a Spanish company. This was formed in 1920 when Vicente Boluda Marí founded a tugboat company, operating in the Valencian port. The VB in the tug boat names is from the initials of the founder of the company. Interestingly, the current chairman of this company is Vicente Boluda Fos so the VB initials are still relevant. Although not completely relevant to your question, another one of the tug boat companies operating on the River Thames is called Svitzer and all of their tugs all include Svitzer in their name (e.g. Svitzer Meridian, Svitzer Ramsey, etc.)
@death_parade
@death_parade 27 күн бұрын
@@ThamesShips So these are commercial tugs then? I thought, since this was a military vessel, Royal Navy would provide its own Tugs for the job. In Indian Navy, tugs are also assigned the INS prefix. Is it the same in Royal Navy too? Do the Royal Navy tugs also get the HMS prefix?
@ThamesShips
@ThamesShips 27 күн бұрын
@@death_parade Yes - they are commercial tugs. Navy ships do not visit London very often so there is little need for dedicated navy tugs on the Thames as they would not be used very often. In locations where there are more navy ships (such as Portsmouth or on the river Clyde in Scotland), dedicated navy tugs may be used. Royal Navy tugs are operated by a company called Serco Maritime Services. This company was originally called Serco Denholm Marine Services Limited and all their tugs had the "SD" prefix. Serco bought out its partner Denhom in 2007 but the Serco tugs still maintain the prefix "SD" from the time that they were operated by Serco Denholm Marine Services Limited even though they are now operated by Serco Maritime Services.
