Foxconn is just as assembly company. TSMC is the only company doing semiconductor fabrication at 4nm and finer. Edit: I learned that while Foxconn traditionally has been a pure assembly player, they’re entering into 28nm semiconductor fabrication space with a planned fab in Gujarat based on a IMEC technology license.

India needs to fix below issues: 1. Unemployment 2. Increase per capita consumption 3. Build infrastructure in TIER 2 and TIER 3 cities. There are no Indian companies that can design and manufacture SOC, Oled display, memory chips, multi- layer pcb, etc., components necessary for the manufacturing of smartphones. All these have to be imported. India is still at the assembly stage of manufacturing, i.e. screw driver technology. Singapore was already assembling Apple II computers in the 1970s. Later Compaq and HP started manufacturing its PCs and ink jet printers here. In fact, Motorola used to assemble some of its mobile phones in Singapore. Therefore, India is decades behind Singapore in the electronics and semiconductor industry. Tiny Singapore accounts for 10% of the global chips output and 20% of the chip making equipment.
