Indian Ride Command Run Through: Tips and Tricks

I've been getting a lot of questions lately about connecting Cardos and Senas to the Indian Ride Command system and how the Ottocast U2 X Pro works, as well as seeing posts of people having some issues using general functions. Just thought I'd demo some of the functions of Ride Command system in actual, on-the-road usage. This is on my 2021 Indian Challenger Limited, but any of this should apply to any Indian that has the 7" Ride Command such as RoadMasters or Chieftains.

Just running across your videos because I'm looking to set up Ottocast. Thanks for running through the setup in your vids and tips & tricks. While I appreciate your enthusiasm behind Indian's attempt at "infotainment", when I spend $30k plus for something, I expect it to work. "Buggy" doesn't come close to the frustration I have with it. Everyone's response is "use your phone" or "I use my phone" and while that's an option, I shouldn't have to use my phone because their product flat out sux. I'm on a '23 Pursuit now and I had less issues with my '15 & '18 Roadmasters. All that aside, I do appreciate your videos and your opinions, so thanks for taking the time to put these together.

I run the Ottocast every time I ride, for hours at a time, and have very minimal issues. The Ride Command works great for me for ride tracking, getting info about the bike, and changing settings and Android Auto works for everything else. Honestly, I have a great experience using the Ride Command on my Challenger as a result.

Hahaha I like that shirt! I think I should find one like that. I have a 19 RM and it looks like the Ride Command is improving since then. I'm not mad with the RC I have on mine. I use the finger triggers to go through the widgets I have set up. Works for me. Have to trick the navigation sometimes to get to where I want to go somewhere nearby it can recognize. I don't know if it shows the radar overlay. Would be nice if it had it on that year RC. I'll have to look again when I get on it to see if it has an upgrade. Or if it's possible to update it to reflect the radar overlay.

I a 2017 Chieftain. I dont have to wear a helmet in Illinois. Can I hook up my Samsung phone to Ottocast?

Yes, as long as you have the 7" Ride Command. You'll still need to pair some kind of headset to the bike to get it to use CarPlay. Even a set of airpods will work.

"BCM".... body-control.module. ECM is only for engine and SOME transmission function.

I was online, shopping for the Ottocast adapter. I see that there are Ottocast-U2-X and Ottocast-U2-Air models. While looking at the Air, it says to be sure to buy the one you need. Is it for Carplay or is it for Android Auto? Now of course it is for Android Auto, but I think we are trying to fake out the Ride Command making like a Car Play device. So which one? U2-X or Air and for Android Auto or Car Play?

Ive been using Android Auto through my carlinkit device using a dongle for almost 2 years. My RC gets glitchy ince in a while. But i have enough patience to get through that. My AA works great!! I have not opted for the last update. May or may not. Hows your new update? Did it mess with your AA setup at all?

Update works but you have to switch the Ottocast to Audio Mode 3 for the voice commands to work.

I have a 2017 Roadmaster. Syncing my galaxy S22 ultra to the Bluetooth is miserable. It will often get stuck connecting and I can't do anything to stop it. It seems to happen after I initially pair the phone, and if I turn the bike off (grab lunch at half way point or stop at rally spot to wait for more bikes) when I get back to riding, it's no longer paired and is stuck connecting again. There aren't strong radio signals in my area and I have a short antenna so I often am stuck riding for hours in silence. Does anyone else have this problem? And will this Otto cast thing help that? Thanks in advance.

I believe you can do some of that stuff with the buttons under the turn signal/next to the music control button

Yes, I have. It works fine except for the fact that voice commands won't go to the Cardo, they play through the faring and can't find the mic. Other than that it does work though.

I have an Android and looking to buy a Pursuit.....If i just simply pair my phone through Bluetooth to the bike and play music through Amazon Music for example, can I toggle through songs through the handlebar controls or is the only way to listen to music on your phone through Android Auto? Sorry, i don't consider myself tech crazy for stuff like this.

You can but you'll have much more control using Android Auto, as well as being able to use Google Maps and Waze.

So the Nav is so bad that I purchased a Garmin for Navigation. So when the Garmin transmits the Apple car play turns off. So you can't have both. So I have a choice directions or music. It's is ok the bike only cost $38,000.00.

Huh? If you're using Carplay why would you being trying to use a nav at the same time? Just use Apple Maps. Further, not being able to transmit through multiple devices at the same time isn't Ride Command's fault, that's a limitation of Bluetooth. If for some reason you really wanted to use a Garmin for nav, pair it to your Cardo in the GPS slot and then pair the Ride Command in the Bike slot or in the "Phone 2" slot. Your directions go to your helmet and the bike plays through its speakers. That's the intended way such a set up would work, you don't want to be pairing the GPS to the bike in the first place.

I am behind the curve with this. You said you had something in the cubby that enables Android auto? I'm guessing that's just an interface between your phone, microphone and the bike? What's it called and how much is it? I tried using ride command on my last trip and it always seemed to be too far behind.

Hey man question. I don't use a helmet much. Would I still need a Otto Cast? I am trying to get my phone screen to show up on the Challengers screen. I have a Galaxy 23 Ultra. Navigation is terrible. Any advice on Nav. Bike is 23 Challenger TY man

You cannot use Android Auto w/out an Ottocast or similar device and a bluetooth mic.

Just a question, I have a 2023 chieftain limited with the ride command and I could not find a temperature icon like you have mine just tells me the ambient temperature. And another one Is there a way to change the fuel gauge so it doesn't just say low actually get a fuel gauge? When I had my Springfield dark horse it had a analog fuel gauge and the digital gauge and I liked seeing how much more fuel I have, cuz I hate when it says low and I don't know even using the trip meter and I tend to have a gallon of gas left. Thank you

Challenger Power Plus Engine is water cooled so we have a thermostat that can provide coolent temp. Your Thunderstroke motor is air cooled, so you have no coolant to give the temp of.

And no, the gas gauge will always read low. That's because it's not accurate to a gallon, and Indian doesn't want people complaining that they were left stranded with their gauge showing 2 miles left.

My maps are 4 - 5 seconds behind me when traveling. Customer service has been of no help. Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct this? Thanks. 2022 Pursuit DH.

I bought a used one of 2021 Challenger limited ruby metallic I love the bike and no one showed me cuz I didn't buy it from the Indian but I was just wondering I have a Samsung and you know plugged it into the little pocket on the right side on the fairing it worked fine and paired up fine you know with Bluetooth in a phone I can get a call from someone but I can't talk through the bike I like it my friend called I can see his name on the screen and you know like you would get a call and I can hear him in the phone coming from the speaker in the phone in their pocket but I can't talk to him like I can't with my LG Tone so I was wondering I know he mentioned you need a microphone or something I'm not a tech guy so if someone could explain it to me a little better or maybe have a website what I would need to get thank you very much

You have to pair a microphone of some kind to the bike. A Cardo or a Sena.
