In this video I am in The Gambia - the smallest country in Africa, The Gambia is also known as the smiling coast of Africa.
I am very surprised to come across Indian people living and working here - In this video I brush up on my hindi and ask them a few questions in interview.
Thanks so much to Ajay, Mohamed, Dax and Bhagyesh who were all incredibly helpful in the interviews :)

I do not know why people are surprised about seeing Indians in The Gambia; Most African countries have Indians and Africa has always welcomed Indians and Lebanese (do extremely well on the continent)but in many cases, (not all) Africans are not treated the same way when they are in India or Lebanon.
@elennet4116
@elennet4116 2 жыл бұрын
They are surprised because most Indians usually live in South Africa, East African countries and Mauritius In West and North Africa it's rare for any Indians to migrate Also Africans are treated well in india But racism against Indians is well documented in Uganda and South Africa
@Speedy300
@Speedy300 2 жыл бұрын
@@elennet4116 Indians had been living in Sierra Leone and other West African countries for decades (do not have a large population in the region). Some Africans do have a pleasant experience in India but others experience discrimination. when it comes to the Uganda situation, the British put Idi Amin in power and wanted him to execute England’s plan for Uganda but Amin did the opposite; as a result, the power that be tried to get rid of him by pushing him to the corner; consequently, Amin became ruthless and started killing anyone he thought was a threat (western media would not tell the whole story); sequentially, Amin started picking on the Indians; at that time, the Indians were running the economy and never integrated with the local population and thus created a new class system in Uganda. Moreover, the Ugandans were second class citizens and did not have control of their economy. Idi tried to correct the system to empower his people by kicking the Indians out of Uganda,which was a wrong move on his part(collapsed the economy). He could have taken a different approach to resolve the problem (integration and transfer of knowledge or exchange of ideas).

@@Speedy300 "Ugandans didn't have control of economy" 🤣🤣🤣 Dude are you serious They literally had a dictator running the show and they could have done anything they wanted Indians are good at business so they dominate the economy but they never stopped or restricted Ugandans from running their own business It's your Africans failure , don't blame it on Indians just because of jealousy
@Speedy300
@Speedy300 2 жыл бұрын
@@elennet4116 I am not jealous of Indians; what are you talking about? British set up the structure that way before IDi came to power. For example, the British would not trade with the locals but with foreigners who were living in the country so as time progressed, the foreigners would end up dominating the economy; it has nothing to do with how good Indians are at doing business.
@Speedy300
@Speedy300 2 жыл бұрын
@@elennet4116 Idi was never in control of his country’s economy ; you do not understand the power of colonialism even though Indian was under it for a very long time and same tactics were implemented.

I taught the same thing when thies poor people leave their country they come to Africa to look down on our African people did you hear that one in the electronic shop say that the local people don't know to do business that is foolish thinking the African people were the first set of traders and navigate in the world it's documented in world history that is why Idi Amen did not let them continue with them draining his country we as a people meed to get back our pride of being the first richest continent and the first world civilization in the world and get rid of all the paracites that are being permitted to live off the wealth of Africa. and still call us poorest country in the world.

They pay for licenses and get the right paper works to do what they do.They are protecting their resources in there country and also voting for leaders that have their best interest at heart. We on the other hand want to vote for our relatives and our tribesmen even if they are corrupt. You are mad at the wrong people. Our own people would prefer to rent shops to them than Gambians because they pay more. How can u even point a finger at them????? Sis they don't even commit crimes in the country.... All they do is work. How is that wrong. They didn't come here illegally and they did not force our authorities to grant them access here. Again you are mad at the wrong people...

Wonder how many Gambian business owners ( reverse business opportunities) are in India. I have always maintained that Gambians or any other country in the world should and must have their locals participate in the growth of their economies. Anyone believe that the Profits from foreign nationals ( I am advocating for full local support ) keep their money in Gambia ? There’s an economic vacuum that is making Gambians poorer & poorer because foreigners own all the essential business entities . Is that sustainable ?
